WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed former President Donald Trump's response to his speech against Israel, CNN reported.

The New York Democrat on Tuesday, March 19, labeled the GOP presumptive nominee's remarks accusing the Democrats and Jewish voters who support the party of hating Israel and their religion as "hateful" and "unadulterated antisemitism."

Trump, in a recent Podcast interview with his former White House aide Sebastian Gorka, responded to Schumer's criticism against the Jewish state and its PM Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming, "I actually think they hate Israel. I don't think they hate him, I think they hate Israel. And the Democrat Party hates Israel."

"Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion," Trump said, adding, "They hate everything about Israel, and they should be ashamed of themselves because Israel will be destroyed."

"The former president's comments were utterly disgusting and a textbook example of the kind of antisemitism facing Jews, pushing the dangerous antisemitism trope of dual loyalty," Schumer lashed out at the former president.

"To say you hate Israel or your religion because you have one political view over the other is sick. It's hateful, it is unadulterated antisemitism, and it serves to use Israel as a political wedge further damaging the bonds between the US and Israel," the first Jewish Senate majority leader added.

The back-and-forth criticism between the top Democrat and the Republican presidential candidate stemmed after the former demanded Israel conduct new elections in a recent Senate floor speech.

Schumer accused PM Netanyahu of losing his way in the war on Gaza as the latter refused a ceasefire despite the Palestinian death toll crossing 30,000 and almost the entire Gaza population suffering from acute famine.

The Biden administration is facing intense pressure from the left-leaning Democrats as well as pro-Palestinians to coerce Netanyahu into a permanent ceasefire. For instance, many voted "uncommitted" at the Michigan Democratic primary to protest his inaction on the issue, which caused a dent in President Joe Biden's vote share.

Furthermore, Biden supported Schumer's demand for a new election in Israel to replace Netneyahu's coalition government. And in a recent diplomatic conversation with the Israeli leader, Biden warned him against sending troops for an offensive in Rafah.

The Biden administration's visible shift in policy towards its longtime ally has caused a rift between both countries since the Israel-Hamas war started in October 2023.

Internet blasts Chuck Schumer

Netizens slammed the top Jewish elected official over his remarks against Trump's response.

One user described the Senator's remarks as "Shameless."

"Chuck tried to interfere in another Country's election/sovereignty. Clown," another person wrote.

A third user added, "Chuck no one is believing this anti-Semitic stuff anymore."

"Shut up Chuck! You were just telling the people that Netanyahu must go last week. You can’t have it both ways. Clearly you and the democrats can’t be trusted!" a fourth response read.

Another individual said, "Are we supposed to have forgotten that Schumer just called for regime change in Israel? Does this guy even listen to himself? He has a new lie every day, and he expects us to have forgotten yesterday's lie by tomorrow"

"You have no loyalty to anything but yourself. Quit playing," someone else added.
