WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump clinched the Republican presidential nomination for 2024 on Tuesday, March 12, after winning the state primaries in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington, thus surpassing the necessary threshold of 1,215 delegates.

Trump is also anticipated to emerge victorious from Tuesday's GOP caucus in Hawaii, as per the NY Post.

With the exception of Vermont and the District of Columbia, where he was defeated by former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, Donald Trump emerged victorious in the GOP primaries and caucuses.

Following her disappointing performance on Super Tuesday last week, Haley suspended her campaign.

Between January 15 and March 2, Donald Trump secured victories in eight consecutive contests, marking a strong start to his 2024 presidential primary and caucus campaign.

He dominated the GOP field without ever setting foot on a debate stage and declined to take part in any of the five forums approved by the Republican National Committee this cycle due to the double-digit lead in polls he had over his main rivals since the launch of his campaign on November 15, 2022.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, long considered the top contender to challenge the 45th president, nearly closed the gap to within 13 percentage points of Trump's national support in late February 2023 polls.

However, DeSantis subsequently lost momentum to the former president as Republicans rallied behind Trump following the first of four criminal indictments.

Additionally, supported by approximately 80 percent of Republican voters, the presumed GOP nominee now confronts 91 felony charges as he transitions into the general election phase of his presidential campaign.

It's worth noting that Trump will likely need to manage his general election campaign commitments alongside his court appearances. His first criminal trial, involving 34 counts related to purported hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, is slated to commence in Manhattan on March 25.

In addition to the federal trial in Florida regarding his handling of classified materials post-presidency, Trump is concurrently entangled in state and federal trials in Georgia and Washington, DC, respectively.

These trials revolve around accusations of his involvement in the 2020 presidential election.

In November, Trump will face President Biden in a bid to become the first former president to win a second non-consecutive term in office since Grover Cleveland.

The upcoming 2020 general election rematch will mark the first such occurrence since the 1952 presidential campaign replay between President Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson.
