NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd shared his concerns about the debate rules requested by the Joe Biden campaign. He stated that the rules have the potential to make Donald Trump appear "more presidential" than the President on Wednesday, June 25.

The presumptive Democratic and Republican presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Donald Trump, are scheduled to face each other at the Atlanta studio of CNN on Thursday, June 27, for the first presidential debate of 2024.

The debate will be moderated by network hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, and would follow a stringent set of rules agreed upon by both parties. They include the absence of a live audience, and microphones being muted for candidates when it is not their turn.

Both these rules were initially pushed for by President Biden's campaign.

Chuck Todd highlights the risks for team Joe Biden

Speaking of the rules of the debate, Todd told MSNBC, "This to me, though, is the real risk for Team Biden. They so want to have a different experience than the last debate they had with them or the first debate from the last cycle."

"And ironically, that's the single best debate Biden had, right? Because Trump's behavior really sort of almost cemented Biden's lead by that point and it may have done Trump in at that point. And now here's the Biden campaign trying to come up with a set of rules to make sure Trump seems more presentable?"

"I have to say, when you sort of look at their motivation here and given the experience they had four years ago, it's a head-scratcher to me that they went so out of their way to try to create an environment that will make Trump seem more presidential," he added.

According to Fox News, Todd seemingly speculated that the muted microphones might help Trump show restraint and not repeat his performance of 2020 when he repeatedly interrupted Biden throughout his speech.

The then-president's demeanor was said to have made viewers more sympathetic towards the incumbent. The fact that Trump would not be able to feed off the energy of a live audience this time around may also help tone him down a little.

Internet slams Chuck Todd's take

Netizens claimed Donald Trump does not need any help to come off better than President Joe Biden, as the following comments on the Fox News website demonstrate.

"Chuck ole boy, it doesn't really matter who debates Biden, anyone would look better than him," wrote ome person.

"Trump doesn't need any help in looking more presidential than Joe," stated another.

"The only thing that did Trump in was all the cheating that took place in the election," a MAGA supporter commented.

"Trump will be debating three. The commentators and Biden," one individual said.

"So Chuck is upset that the 'fix' is not in for Biden?" asked another.
