CNN's Kaitlan Collins sparks debate as she debunks Trump's claim about judge blocking expert testimony
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During the opening of her show 'The Source with Kaitlan Collins' on May 24, CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins challenged former President Donald Trump's assertion that Judge Juan Merchan, presiding over his hush-money trial, is preventing him from presenting an election expert as a witness.
Collins quoted Trump's post on Truth Social, saying, "In one post tonight, he's ranting that the judge blocked him from having an election expert testify."
Kaitlan Collins attacks lies in Trump's Truth Social posts
“He is denying me the opportunity to put on a Highly Respected Election Law Expert who will say, once again, that THERE WAS NO CRIME,” Trump said in a post on TruthSocial made on may 24.
The post continued, “This Judge, whose conflicts are completely disqualifying, isn’t even requiring a unanimous decision by the jury on key portions of this Criminal Hoax, which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND UNAMERICAN.”
Corrupt, Deeply Conflicted, Democrat Appointed Acting Judge Juan Merchan is doing all he can to even further RIG the Manhattan Sham “Trial.” He is denying me the opportunity to put on a Highly Respected Election Law Expert who will say, once again, that THERE WAS NO CRIME. Highlighting the same, Collins said, “But that’s not true."
“We were there! We witnessed this discussion that happened inside the courtroom. Trump’s attorneys, in the end, chose not to call that election expert, because the judge refused to broaden the scope of what he could testify to. He was worried it would become, as the judge put it, a battle of the experts," she added.
The presumptive GOP nominee, Trump has been actively posting on TruthSocial, criticizing Judge Merchan, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and others.
This comes as the defense rested its case on May 21 in the Manhattan hush money trial, where Trump faces 34 felony counts.
The trial is set to proceed with closing arguments following Memorial Day Weekend, after which the jury will begin deliberations.
In her statement on the show, Collins suggested that a significant moment in history could occur by the end of the following week.
This anticipation stems from the 12-person jury, chosen in mid-April, who will determine the guilt or innocence of the former president.
