CNN calls out Fox News for double standards in covering Trump and Hunter Biden verdicts
Phillip said during the CNN segment hat the right-wing network’s commentators “seem to be singing a completely different tune” after the conviction of the President’s son on gun charges.
She then showcased the split-screen footage where Fox News host Jeanine Pirro lamented the diminishing trust in the criminal justice system following Trump's conviction but celebrated Hunter Biden’s conviction as proof that "no one’s above the law."
Fox News host Laura Ingraham expressed that the Trump hush money verdict made her feel like she was in a "banana republic," yet she claimed that Hunter Biden’s conviction showed that the family was finally being held accountable for its "sleazy, corrupt conduct."
Jesse Watters went to extremes, proclaiming that "the Republic has been wounded" when Trump was convicted on all 34 counts for concealing hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. However, he stated that decision of June 11 finding Hunter Biden guilty of omitting his drug addiction on a gun-purchase form "gave me a little boost of confidence in the American legal system."
The change in tone for the two verdicts did not go unnoticed by the CNN host. “You can’t claim the justice system is dead because of a single conviction while also praising it for another,” Phillip remarked. “And you can’t accuse President Biden of weaponizing the Justice Department against his enemies when that same department just convicted his own son.”
