Coachella Do LaB stage closes after lighting fixture falls onto crowd, one injured
INDIO, CALIFORNIA: Coachella took a frightening turn on Friday night, April 10, when a large lighting fixture fell onto the crowd, striking at least one attendee, leaving her injured and bleeding.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 pm during a set by DJ John Summit at the Do LaB stage. A witness said the equipment dropped from above and landed among concertgoers, according to SFGate. High winds at the 2026 Valley Music and Arts Festival forced at least one major act to cancel on the opening night of Weekend One.
Falling lighting fixture leaves festivalgoer heavily bleeding
A witness, Joey Freshour, said he and a group of friends were watching John Summit’s set when he noticed something falling from above. A lighting unit dropped into the crowd and struck a woman standing a few rows ahead of him. It hit the side of her head and “gashed her head open,” he said. “There was blood all over the light, and then there was blood on the ground.”
Freshour said people nearby tried to get help by shining their phone lights to alert medics.

He later shared a video showing the heavy fixture on the ground beneath the Do LaB stage installations. Freshour said several people attempted to move it, but it was too heavy for one person alone. He said he recorded the scene to document what happened. “This is not okay,” he said. “Coachella, what are we doing?”
Three people quickly picked up the injured woman and carried her out of the crowd to get help. The video from the scene showed the fallen structure under the stage decorations, as several people tried but could not move it because it was too heavy.

Early indications suggest weather played a role, as powerful gusts moved through the festival grounds throughout the day, disrupting multiple performances.
The National Weather Service placed Indio, California, under an air quality alert, warning that overnight winds could climb to around 25 mph at the Empire Polo Club, the site of Coachella, as per Asatu news. The conditions also led Italian melodic techno artist Anyma to call off a planned midnight performance.
On the other hand, producer Jigitz, who was scheduled at the Do LaB stage, said on Instagram that his set was cut short. Electronic artist Anyma also canceled a planned performance. In other areas, tents and canopies were blown away, pointing to the impact of the conditions. Reports indicate the strong winds may have contributed to the incident.
