WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, on Thursday, September 11, voiced concern for the nation following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, emphasizing that he was more worried about the country than his own safety.

Trump also urged his supporters to respond with nonviolence, stressing that Kirk himself had advocated for peaceful engagement.

Trump urges nonviolent response to Charlie Kirk’s killing

Trump spoke to reporters as he departed the White House for New York, amid heightened tensions following the targeted attack that killed Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, September 10.

When asked if he feared for his own safety, Trump replied, “Not really. I'm really concerned for our country. We have a great country. We have a radical left group of lunatics out there, just absolute lunatics, and we're going to get that problem solved. I'm only concerned for the country.”

On how he wants supporters to respond to the shooting, Trump said, “He was an advocate of nonviolence. That's the way I'd like to see people respond.” The president also noted that he had spoken with Kirk’s wife, Erika, who was “absolutely devastated” by the loss.

Manhunt intensifies while Trump vows Medal of Freedom honor for Charlie Kirk

Authorities have recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting and are investigating multiple leads. “Multiple leads are currently being investigated, but no suspect is in custody,” Utah law enforcement officials confirmed.

The FBI urged the public to provide any information regarding the case and posted a reward of up to $100,000 for tips leading to the suspect’s identification and capture.

Trump announced plans to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, describing him as “a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people.” The date for the ceremony has not yet been set, though Trump noted it would likely draw a large crowd.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance was seen escorting the casket of Charlie Kirk toward Air Force Two on the tarmac in Salt Lake City before leaving for Kirk's hometown, Phoenix, Arizona. A viral video showed Kirk's wife, Erika Frantzve, visibly emotional as the casket passed before her.
