Cops raid Ilhan Omar's son's apartment, arrest roommate in police operation

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Police reportedly searched the Minneapolis apartment of Rep Ilhan Omar's son on Tuesday, August 25, recovering firearms and ammunition before arresting his roommate on a weapons charge.

The search came after officers stopped the roommate during a traffic investigation and later found a firearm in the vehicle, according to multiple media reports.

The roommate, Abdulrahman Abdi, was subsequently taken into custody at an address on Marquette Avenue.

Cops raid Ilhan Omar's son's apartment

The police operation began on Tuesday when Minneapolis officers stopped Abdi during a traffic stop.

Officers cited him for driving without proof of insurance and without a license. He was released at the scene while police dealt with the vehicle.

That changed when officers reportedly discovered a firearm inside the vehicle as it was being prepared for impoundment.

Police then tracked Abdi to a Marquette Avenue address and arrested him there without incident, according to the department.

Guns and ammunition were reportedly recovered during the search.

Abdi was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge and was reportedly released Wednesday night.

There is no indication in the reports that Omar’s son was arrested or charged in connection with the weapons case.

Ilhan Omar previously raised ICE concerns

The latest weapons investigation involving Rep Ilhan Omar’s son’s apartment is separate from an earlier incident the congresswoman publicly addressed involving her son and federal immigration authorities.

Omar previously claimed that her son was stopped and questioned by ICE agents after leaving a Target store.

According to Omar’s account, the agents questioned him about his citizenship before releasing him after he presented his US passport.

The congresswoman also previously alleged that ICE agents entered a mosque where her son and other people were praying. Omar said no arrests were made during that encounter.

Those earlier incidents are not connected to the latest police investigation at the apartment.

Abdi also has a history of previous encounters with law enforcement, according to court records cited in media reports about the case.

Court records reportedly show 10 convictions on his record, with most classified as misdemeanors.

A significant portion of those cases involved driving offenses and other traffic-related violations.

Ilhan Omar has not issued a public statement about the incident so far.
