As Johnson exited the National Day of Prayer service, local reporters swarmed around him, eager to obtain his perspective on the recent arrest of Tate Jr, who has been accused of fatally shooting Chicago Police Officer Luis M Huesca during a carjacking incident in April.

However, instead of addressing the pressing matter, the mayor ran toward his chauffeured vehicle waiting nearby. The scene quickly escalated as reporters tried to stop Johnson, shouting questions and pleas for comment.

Mary Ann Ahern from NBC 5 voiced her frustration, questioning, "Mr Mayor, why do you have to run from us?" Meanwhile, Darius Johnson of CBS Chicago appealed, "Mayor, we just want a comment about the arrest in relation to Officer Huesca."

Amid the chaos, Johnson was captured on video hurriedly moving amid a flock of suited aides before eventually jumping into a black SUV and speeding away from the scene.

Xavier Tate Jr was caught 10 days after the brutal killing of Chicago police officer Luis M Huesca

Tate Jr, 22, who allegedly gunned down Huesca during a carjacking incident on April 21, was apprehended on Wednesday in Glendale Heights, 10 days after the brutal early morning shooting that claimed the life of the six-year department veteran.

According to authorities, the off-duty officer was driving home in his uniform after completing his shift when Tate Jr approached the driver's side and unleashed a barrage of gunfire, striking Huesca 10 times.

Huesca was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

In a heartbreaking statement, his family expressed their anguish, saying, "The vile nature of this crime and its devastating impact on our family and the community demand the uncompromising pursuit of justice. While no measure of justice can bring Officer Huesca back or fully heal our hearts, we take solace in his enduring legacy of service and bravery."
