HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT: A gathering of roughly 100 people in Hartford ended in deadly gunfire early Sunday, August 16, with one person killed and four others wounded, police said.

Officers rushed to Wethersfield Avenue after midnight after an alert, finding an unresponsive gunshot victim amid the crowd.

The victim was pronounced dead, while the four others were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from stable to critical.

Five people shot in mass shooting

Hartford police said officers arriving at the scene found one person suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive. That victim later died.

Four other victims were also identified after the shooting.

Two men also arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle and were listed in stable condition.

Another man in his 30s was described as being in critical but stable condition, while a woman was also listed in stable condition.

Police said investigators believe one gun was used in the shooting.

The Major Crimes and Crime Scene divisions are leading the investigation, with authorities continuing to work to determine what triggered the gunfire and who was responsible.

No arrests were announced in the information released by police.

Separate shootings hit Lexington and Chicago too

The violence in Hartford came amid a separate stretch of shootings reported across the country over the weekend.

In Lexington, Kentucky, gunfire erupted near a busy downtown bar on Saturday, leaving one person dead and four others injured.

Police said they recovered evidence indicating that at least 13 shots had been fired in the area.

Among those caught in the shooting were a 4-year-old child, a 14-year-old and two adults.

Authorities said none of the four wounded victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Hours earlier, another shooting had unfolded in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Investigators said several people were walking along a sidewalk when a vehicle approached them.

People inside the vehicle then opened fire before speeding away from the area.

Four people were injured in the Chicago attack. Two victims were critically wounded, according to police.

The shootings in Hartford, Lexington and Chicago took place independently, with investigators treating each incident as a separate case so far.

Authorities have not indicated any connection between the three episodes or suggested that the same suspects were involved.
