WASHINGTON, DC: In the 30-minute interview with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos, President Joe Biden addressed the criticism regarding the first presidential debate in Atlanta, admitting things may not have gone his way.

Throughout the ABC interview, Biden emphasized his health and stamina, expressing confidence that he can continue his campaign and defeat former President Donald Trump once again. Skeptical of the current polls that see him trailing, Biden claimed that only divine intervention would cause him to end his campaign.

Stephanopoulos said during the interview, "Let's start with the debate. eh, You and your team said, have said you had a bad night."

"Sure did," Biden responded.

"But your friend Nancy Pelosi actually framed the question that I think is on the minds of millions of Americans. Was this a bad episode or the sign of a more serious condition?" the host questioned.

"It was a bad episode. No indication of any serious condition. I was exhausted. I didn't listen to my instincts in terms of preparing and-- and a bad night," the president claimed.

"You know, you say you were exhausted. And-- and I know you've said that before as well, but you came-- and you did have a tough month. But you came home from Europe about 11 or 12 days before the debate, spent six days in Camp David. Why wasn't that enough rest time, enough recovery time?" said Stephanopoulos.

"Because I was sick. I was feeling terrible. Matter of fact, the docs with me. I asked if they did a Covid test because they’re trying to figure out what was wrong. They did a test to see whether or not I had some infection, you know, a virus. I didn't. I just had a really bad cold," Biden added.

Joe Biden's debate debacle

During the 90-minute televised debate, Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points. Trump seized the opportunity to ridicule Biden's occasionally unclear statements.

The incumbent frequently stumbled during his responses and, at one instance, paused before stating, "I beat Medicare."

Joe Biden's George Stephanopoulos interview riles up social media

Reactions to the interview were swift and varied across social media and the political landscape.

Republican lawmakers quickly condemned Biden's performance as proof of his inability to lead. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) stated, "The Stephanopoulos interview has made one thing clear: Joe Biden is completely unfit to serve as president for the next 6 months, much less the next 4 years. This is exactly what the 25th Amendment was meant for."

"Not sure what the purpose of that ABC interview was," wrote Mehdi Hasan. "It didn’t finish off Biden but it didn’t restore faith in him either. A lot of the questions were a waste of time. But, but, the denialism from Biden re the polls and his situation was truly alarming," he added.

Another social media user tweeted, "The useless @SpeakerJohnson should immediately cut all funding and launch investigations into who is running the country. It’s obvious it’s not Joe."

A user said, "Throw the damn towel. It's Joever."

"Dude said he was tired….he’s usually on vacation," chimed another.

"Denier in chief. He's in self denial and that leads to more disaster! It's all about power and he makes the US look weak on the world stage. He "stopped Putin". lol. I can't stand to watch or listen to him..." penned a user.

"@ABC why weren't you aggressive for the past 8 years while Trump did a thousand crazy things, immoral things, and illegal things? You failed then. You don't get a say now. #Traitors" read a tweet.

"Omg and this was pre taped and edited by the leftist media! Holy hell bring back Trump!!!" asserted an individual.

"Still trying to hide the truth," said another social media user.

"There are 90-year-olds who are sharper than Biden. Not every1 ages the same. Younger people get dementia. Biden is in denial, & those enabling him to run are the enablers, who are propping him up. He spent the interview talking about past achievements. His present is slipping away," claimed an individual.
