DHS blames Gavin Newsom after illegal immigrant charged with killing 3 Americans with reckless highway act
ST LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA: On August 12, Harjinder Singh, a 2018 border-crosser from India, turned his truck through an “Official Use Only” access point in St Lucie County, Florida, and blocked all lanes of the highway.
The result was catastrophic. Three innocent lives were gone in an instant.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said Singh’s reckless maneuver caused the deadly pile-up. Thanks to video footage obtained by Breaking911, we can see the exact moment Singh cut across the highway. His face showed no shock, no horror, nor remorse.
The alleged semi-truck driver who killed three people while making a U-turn at an “Official Use Only” turn on the Florida Turnpike is an ILLEGAL MIGRANT who was granted a commercial driver’s license by the State of California.

DHS accuses Gavin Newsom of putting lives at risk
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) wasted no time blasting California Governor Gavin Newsom, pointing the finger squarely at his state’s licensing practices.
“Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California Department of Motor Vehicles issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License—this state of governance is asinine,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“How many more innocent people must die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public? We pray for the victims and their families. Secretary Noem and DHS are working around the clock to protect the public and get these criminal illegal aliens out of America.”

According to DHS, Singh had no legal right to be in the US but still managed to get a California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
“Governor Newsom put Americans' lives directly at risk by arming this illegal alien with the ability to operate a 40-ton killing machine on US highways. This reckless policy gave Singh the keys, and three innocent people paid with their lives,” the DHS website stated.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem herself weighed in. “3 innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License. This gut-wrenching tragedy should have never happened," she wrote.
"My team at @DHSgov will work with @USDOT to root out and prevent illegal aliens from obtaining these licenses from sanctuary jurisdictions that put American drivers and passengers in danger.”

Gavin Newsom claps back, but it backfires
Singh slipped into the US during the Trump Administration in 2018, claiming asylum because it was no longer safe in India. He was released pending proceedings and remained in the country.
That background sparked a blame game between Newsom and federal officials. Newsom’s press office clapped back online, accusing DHS of twisting the facts.
“Hey, Commander Cosplay: the federal government (YOU) already confirmed that this guy meets federal and state immigration requirements -- YOU issued him a work permit (EAD). Oops. As usual, you are either lying or clueless,” Newsom’s office posted on X.

But McLaughlin fired back, pointing the finger at the Biden White House.
“False. Harjinder Singh is in the United States illegally and his work authorization was rejected under the Trump Administration on September 14, 2020. It was later approved under the Biden Administration June 9, 2021. The state of California issues Commercial Drivers Licenses. There is no national CDL. Sincerely, Genius," she snarked.
The internet piled on.
"California as a sanctuary state for illegals has gotten countless Americans k*lled. Gavin Newsom deserves to spend life in prison," one posted on X.
"More lies and deflection from a career liar," another fumed.
"Sadly the left doesn’t care who they hurt with their policies. It’s all just a game of control and power to them," someone else offered.

After Singh was cuffed on vehicular homicide charges, ICE slapped him with an immigration detainer on August 16 to ensure he won’t skate free once his state trial is done. Instead, he’ll be turned over to federal custody.
The DHS claims it is trying to prevent another tragedy like this. For families devastated by crimes committed by illegal immigrants, the department reminded the public that support is available through the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office at 1-855-488-6423.
