WASHINGTON, DC: During an appearance on Fox News’ ‘The Ingraham Angle’, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said he used ChatGPT to research what he calls the Democratic Party’s plan to turn the US into "a socialist country" by changing its demographics.

Host Laura Ingraham kicked things off by asking Mullin about the number of undocumented immigrants currently in the country. She floated a staggering number, between 50 and 60 million people. Mullin didn’t push back on that high estimate. Instead, he walked viewers through his own math and made it clear: he agrees with her.

Markwayne Mullin says number of undocumented immigrants in US could be 50 million

“Mr. Secretary, you know, we don’t really know how many illegals are in the United States,” Laura Ingraham said. “But I think the figure has to be about 50 to 60 million total. What’s your guess?”

“Well, we know underneath the Biden years, there was roughly 20 million,” Mullin replied. “And you can go as high as 23 [million]. If you go back to who has been here during the Obama years and you go on further back, you could easily hit 50 million.”

Current data suggests that as of mid-2024, the undocumented immigrant population in the US stood at approximately 16 million, a figure substantially lower than both Mullin's and Ingraham's estimates.

Markwayne Mullin describes ChatGPT session on turning red states blue

Just before going on air, Mullin asked ChatGPT how to turn a red state blue. The first response ChatGPT gave him, the DHS chief said, was that you have to change the voting demographics in the state.

“The socialist Democrat party knows the only way they can actually change our republic to a socialist country is they have to change the demographics of it," Mullin said.

"And it’s interesting because you can actually Google. Right before we went on the air, I googled– I say ‘googled.’ I went to ChatGPT and asked, ‘How do you change a red state, blue?’ First thing that comes up, it says, ‘You must change the voting demographics,'" he explained.

“So, they’re telling us what they are doing here,” Mullin noted. “But you’re right. It could be very easily at 50 million if you take people that’s been here for 20 to 30 years.”

Deportation costs come under scrutiny

Mullin went on to add, “You can’t have national security if you don’t know who’s in your country, correct?

During the discussion, the price tag for immigration enforcement got some attention.

Ingraham pressed Mullin about the average cost to deport someone living in the country illegally. He said it costs about $18,225 per person on average and blamed the high number, in part, on the legal process that comes with each immigration case.

"It’s because of the ways the laws are written and the way that they can claim asylum, the way that we have to provide the attorney for the individuals, the way that they clog up our judicial system, and then we have to pay to deport the individual at the same time," Mullin claimed.
