Did Diddy throw hands with Will Smith over Jennifer Lopez? Truth behind rumor as awkward clip resurfaces
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A decades-old rumor involving Sean 'Diddy' Combs, his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, and Hollywood’s power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has made a comeback — thanks to a resurfaced video from Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The viral clip reignited one of the strangest rumors in Diddy’s past: a supposed attempt by Will and Jada to involve JLo in a threesome while she and Diddy were still dating. The relationship between JLo and the Bad Boy Records founder was the talk of the town back in the day, as they dated on and off from 1999 to 2001.
Diddy's awkward interview with Jimmy Kimmel
Diddy appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last year, and things got awkward when the late-night host put him on the spot. Kimmel saw an opportunity to ask the Bad Boy for Life rapper about a wild rumor, leaving Diddy visibly uncomfortable, the Daily Mirror reported.
"Hey, speaking of love, I saw a guy on the internet the other day. He said he used to be your security guard," Kimmel said. "He said that when you were dating JLo, Will Smith and Jada tried to pick her up on a threesome, and you were gonna beat up Will Smith. Is that true?"
For a moment, Diddy was completely lost for words. He glared at Kimmel for a second with his entire demeanor shifting, but he quickly regained his composure and tried to laugh it off. “Well, this show has gotten crazier since the last time I was here,” he quipped, clearly dodging the question.
But Kimmel wasn't letting him off the hook that easily. "It’s all about love, though, that’s not true?" he pressed. Diddy, however, denied the claim. “No! No, you really heard that?” he asked. Kimmel joked back, “Yeah, I watched it on the internet. You're telling me I can't believe everything I read?”
Diddy laughed and responded, "I don't know what you're talking about. Jimmy, I thought we was friends.”
So, where did this bizarre rumor even come from? As it turns out, several people from Diddy's past have come forward over the years to share stories about him. One of the most vocal of late has been his former bodyguard, Gene Deal.
Deal has spoken out against Diddy numerous times, offering his perspective on various incidents from the mogul's past.

In fact, Jimmy Kimmel’s question was actually referencing something that Gene Deal had discussed during an episode of 'The Art of Dialogue' podcast. On the show, Deal talked about the infamous threesome rumor and noted that the incident took place at a party hosted by Matt Damon for Ben Affleck at the Four Seasons.
The star-studded guest list reportedly included Jennifer Lopez, Puff Daddy (as Diddy was known at the time), Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith. According to Deal, things got weird when Diddy started to suspect that Will and Jada were trying to make a move on JLo.
“We were at a birthday party that I think Matt Damon was giving for Ben Affleck. It was just a little gathering at the Four Seasons. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Puff, Will Smith, and Jada were sitting on [one] side of the room," Deal recounted.
“[Puff] stood up. And when he stood up, he walked and did his arms a certain kind of way like [crossing them]. I go over towards him and he said to me, ‘Yo, I think Will and Jada are trying to scoop up Jennifer. I want you to stay close ’cause I’ma snuff him,'” he continued. “That s**t was funny. He thought that Jada and Will were coming on too strong to Jennifer, making advances,” Deal added.
In the wake of Diddy's arrest, it is no surprise his past is being dissected from every angle with more details emerging by the day.
On September 17, the day after his arrest, a federal indictment revealed serious charges against the rapper. He has been accused of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; racketeering conspiracy; and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy, for his part, has denied all the charges.
