WASHINGTON, DC: As the much-anticipated midterm elections are only two days away, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that President Donald Trump promised $5 million to every American if the Republicans won the upcoming election.

The claim has sparked criticism and speculation, prompting a fact-check of the viral rumor.

The rumor appeared on Facebook in the form of a screenshot, claiming to show a post by Trump on his official Truth Social handle.

The alleged post read, “We will give every American $5 million if Republicans continue to control the House and the Senate after the midterm elections. We are doing so great, we may increase that amount by 200%, 400% or 800% within a year. No one will ever have to work again. Everyone can retire. Even the Dumocrats.”

The screenshot has also spread on other platforms such as X, Instagram, and Threads, collectively garnering hundreds of thousands of views as of this writing.

While many believed it was an authentic post by the president, others remained skeptical and dismissed it as fake.

Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such post

However, the claim is false, and the screenshot is fabricated, as no such post exists on any of Trump’s social media handles, including Truth Social.

A search on the platform and on commentary accounts on X that automatically archive all his posts yielded no results that match the text in the screenshot.

If Trump had really made such a post and then deleted it, prominent news outlets would have covered it widely, making headlines, but a Google search for the claim yielded no credible results.

Additionally, the screenshot includes several signs of fabrication, including a watermark stating, “Mrs Putin Satire,’ along with a fake username and date.

Trump’s username in the screenshot is written as ‘@realDotardTurmp’ while his actual username is ‘@realDonaldTrump.’

The claim is a satirical take on Trump’s promise of $5000 if the Republicans won the midterms during a speech at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas.

“I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000. Democrat policies won’t allow this to happen. In fact, the opposite,” Trump said.

“They’re going to raise your taxes. If the Democrats win, you will have an economic depression. If the Republicans win, you will each have $5,000 in your pocket, and economic success for our country like we have never ever seen before.” Trump added.
