'Disloyal disaster': Trump urges voters to support Cassidy's primary challenger Julia Letlow
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post on Saturday, May 16, slammed Sen Bill Cassidy as a “disloyal loser” and called on voters to back Cassidy’s primary challenger.
Republican Sen Bill Cassidy, who is seeking a third term in the Senate, is probably facing one of the toughest battles of his political career as Louisiana Republicans cast their verdict on the senator for the first time since he voted to convict President Donald Trump during the 2021 impeachment trial following the January 6 Capitol riot.
Trump slams Bill Cassidy and urges support for Julia Letlow
In the first contest after his vote to convict President Donald Trump, Bill Cassidy is locked in a fierce contest against Trump-endorsed Rep Julia Letlow and Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming.
Trump, in a post, urged support for Julia Letlow, saying “she is a winner who will NEVER let you down,” and emphasized that Bill Cassidy is “bad for Louisiana,” calling him “disloyal disaster."
Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana is a disloyal disaster. His entire past campaign for the Senate was about “TRUMP,” how he’s with me all the way, and then, after winning, he turned around and voted to IMPEACH me for something that has now proven to be total “bullshit!” He knew… pic.twitter.com/OZ6bjkWKmY

“VOTE TODAY FOR JULIA L. She Is a winner who will NEVER let you down. I LOVE LOUISIANA, won it all three times, and got the most votes in its history, by far (A record!!!), despite its big time and 'storied', political past,” he added.
Bill Cassidy responds to Trump's 'disloyal' accusation
Last month, Cassidy was questioned about Trump’s repeated accusation that he is "disloyal" by CNN’s Manu Raju.
After avoiding the question multiple times, the senator said he is “loyal to the United States of America." He also said, "I’m going to do my darnedest and work for the President whenever we’re working for the best of the US."
Asked Bill Cassidy about Trump calling him “very disloyal.”

"I am loyal to the United States of America,” he told me.
Will Trump knock him out of his seat?
“I don’t think so,” he said. pic.twitter.com/cN4RQON4pN
If no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff election on June 27.
The race has become a defining test of whether Republicans who broke with Trump during his second impeachment can still survive politically in today’s GOP.
