WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has recently gone viral after he came up with a bizarre definition of “groceries” during the Liberation Day speech on Wednesday, April 2. 

The 78-year-old Commander-in-Chief, who previously claimed that he “won” the 2024 presidential election on “groceries,” once again brought up one of his favorite words during a speech delivered from the White House while announcing reciprocal tariffs on other countries.

Donald Trump's bizarre definition of 'groceries'

While talking about grocery prices going down, Donald Trump gave his definition of the word often used by the masses. "An old-fashioned term that we use, 'groceries,'” he said.

“I used it on the campaign. It's such an old-fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries,” the president said before giving his definition of the word. “It says a bag with different things in it," he added, BuzzFeed reported. 



 

“Groceries went through the roof and I campaigned on that, I talked about the word groceries,” the president added.

This is, however, not the first time that the president has talked about “groceries” while speaking to his supporters. 

Back in December, he shared during a session of ‘Meet the Press’, “I won on groceries. Very simple word, groceries. Like almost, you know, who uses the word. I started using the word. The groceries."



 

“When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time,” the POTUS added.

Donald Trump's way of describing the daily necessities did not sit well with netizens, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to point it out. They mocked the president for his verbal grandiosity to describe a regular word. 

One of the social media users floated the theory that he has probably never gone grocery shopping, writing, "There's a real chance he's actually never grocery shopped in his entire life."



 

"Nothing says ‘man of the people’ like being baffled by the concept of groceries. Next, he’ll call rent a ‘quaint little fee for living indoors,'" penned another. 



 

Someone else commented, "Only Trump could make “groceries” sound like the Gettysburg Address. Pure gold."



 

"A stark reminder that your country is being run by people who haven't been to a grocery store in 40 years," remarked another. 



 

Someone else jokingly asked, "Make America Grocery Again?"



 

Another added, "To be fair, it's been a while since he went shopping.. And maybe he never did.. I wonder if he knows words like : cashier or barcode.."



 

"Wait until he hears the phrase “grocery store,” you know, a place with stuff in it where people get their “groceries," one individual wrote while wondering what the president would say about a grocery store. 



 

Someone else added, "I guess if you’re a billionaire living in your own hotel, you probably don’t use the word “groceries” very often."
