WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump sparked concerns about his age on X (formerly Twitter) after a photograph of the 78-year-old looking particularly worn out went viral.

The caption to the image, posted by user Marlene Robertson, read, "There’s no way he’ll make it until November." The tweet has been viewed over 341k times since its upload on Friday, August 30.

Donald Trump is the 'new' oldest candidate in the presidential race

Earlier in the 2024 election cycle, Joe Biden, 81, and Donald Trump were the oldest pair of candidates ever to run for the White House in US history.

The advanced age was a concern for the then-Democratic presumptive nominee, who faced regular criticism from Republicans on that front. After a disappointing performance in the first presidential debate against Trump, even some Democrats began to question his mental acuity as he sought another four years in office.

Biden eventually addressed the concerns by suspending his reelection campaign in July and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

At 59, Harris is now the younger of the two contenders running for president in the November election. Consequently, Democrats have shifted from being criticized on the age issue to becoming critics themselves.

The Democratic VP candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, 60, criticized Trump over his age at a campaign rally, describing him as "low energy," "tired," and someone who "needs to get a little rest on the weekend," reported Politico.

Internet mocks Donald Trump over his age

The viral photo of Donald Trump on X led to widespread trolling on the platform. The following tweets highlight the prevailing sentiments on the subject.

"Trump is melting before our eyes," wrote a person.

"That is what happens when leaving a bullfrog in the sunlight without water for a long period of time," jibed another.

"Damn. He might not make it to next Wednesday," quipped a user.

"He looks like an old tired drag queen," shared another.

"He’s on autopilot," commented a user.

"He absolutely looks like he could go at any time. Something is off with his appearance," expressed another.

"Someone forgot to put Trump in the freezer overnight," chided yet another.
