WASHINGTON, DC: What began as a high-profile political alliance between Donald Trump and Elon Musk has unraveled into a headline-making feud.

President Trump and the tech billionaire are now at the center of a very public political fallout, ignited by deep disagreements over Trump’s signature legislation, the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Elon Musk's criticism of 'Big, Beautiful Bill' draws sharp rebuke from Donald Trump

The feud escalated dramatically this week after Elon Musk slammed the bill as a “disgusting abomination” on X, the social platform he owns, criticizing what he claimed was bloated, wasteful spending.

Speaking to the New York Post on June 6, Trump broke his silence on the public rift, sparked by Musk’s scathing critique of Trump’s landmark economic proposal, the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

The president shrugged off the tech mogul’s recent attacks with a five-word statement saying, “Nothing catches me by surprise.”

He added, “The numbers are through the roof, the stock market is up, billions are pouring in from tariffs, and my poll numbers are the highest they’ve ever been. Other than that, what can I tell you, right?”

Trump, however, maintains Musk was fully informed: “He knew the bill as well as anybody. The bill is great. It’s going to pass, but the bill is great, and it’s going to be great for everybody, including him.”

He added, “And you see it now. And take a look at what happened today with the job numbers. They’re through the roof, and the stock market’s up already 600 points.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN that Musk’s business frustrations likely drove the fallout. “Just days ago, Elon thanked the president for his incredible leadership to cut waste and fraud in our government, which this one big beautiful bill does.”

“The only difference between Friday and today is Elon went back to his companies and as a businessman, he has a right to speak for his companies, but as president, President Trump has a responsibility to fight for this country,” she said.

Donald Trump’s latest remarks about his ongoing feud with Elon Musk have triggered an explosion of reactions online, drawing sharp criticism, sarcastic commentary, and divided loyalties.

One user framed the clash as a personal grudge wrapped in policy: “Elon is just angry that the incentive to buy an electric car will be going away.”

Another voice pointed to a deeper systemic issue: “A billionaire who profits off the presidency is feuding with another billionaire who bought access to the government to line his own pockets. Neither should have ever been able to amass so much power. What we're witnessing is a failed experiment in billionaire governance.”

Others speculated about political fallout: “Musk will bankroll a responsible Republican candidate for president, and it will not be JD Vance.”

Some, however, hoped for reconciliation, “Elon has done much good for America. May Trump and Musk resolve this disagreement, and go forward as friends. We The People need both of them to help America recover and thrive.”

Another user commented, “President Trump likes Elon, probably a lot less now. But he has affection for him, and respect.”

“Trump is my president with a proven track record. I voted for him twice without listening to a Musk or a skunk,” another wrote.
