MIAMI, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump, 77, has reignited the debate over President Joe Biden's cognitive health, demanding on Thursday, February 29, that his successor undergo a cognitive test. This call came after the White House reaffirmed that Biden's doctors deemed such a test unnecessary.

On Wednesday, February 28, President Biden made an unanticipated visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda for his routine annual physical examination. Following the examination, Physician to the President, Dr Kevin O'Connor, reported that there were "no new concerns" regarding Biden's health, affirming the president's fitness to serve.

However, Trump, who is speculated to be Biden's potential opponent in the 2024 general election, disagreed with the White House's assessment, Newsweek reported.

Trump's Demands and Biden's Response

"Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test," Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday morning. "Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions. I took two of them, and ACED them both (no mistakes!). All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take the test!" he said.

Trump reiterated his stance during a radio interview on the Katz Show on Richmond's Newsradio WRVA, expressing surprise that Biden had not undergone a cognitive test during his recent physical.

"I just looked, and he took his test yesterday, but they didn't do a cognitive test," Trump said, noting how he "aced" both his tests. "Which they say is a very unusual thing, almost unheard of," he continued.

"And he should take - I actually think a president should be forced to take a cognitive test if you want to know the truth," the former president added. "But somebody said it's unconstitutional, so whatever."

Responding to Trump's assertions, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended Biden's cognitive abilities, stating that the president passes a cognitive test "every day" as he navigates the complexities of his duties. "Every day," she insisted. "As he moves from one topic to another topic trying - understanding the granular level of these topics."

"You saw him talk about ... fighting crime today. Tomorrow, he's going to go to the border. Next week, he's going to give a State of the Union address," Jean-Pierre added. "And so, we have to keep that in mind. This is a very rigorous job. And the president has been able to do - do this job every day for the past three years."

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the test Trump referred to, gained attention during his presidency when his White House physician, Dr Ronny Jackson, administered it in 2018.

Jackson's positive evaluation of Trump's cognitive abilities was echoed by the president himself during a Fox News interview in July 2020, where Trump described the test's questions and his performance in colorful detail.

"They give you 35 questions. The first questions are very easy. The last questions are much more difficult," he said. "Like a memory question, it would go, like you'll go 'person, woman, man, camera, TV.'"

"So they say could you repeat that? So I said yeah. So it's 'person, woman, man, camera, TV.' OK, that's very good. If you get it in order you get extra points," the then-president quipped.

Meanwhile, Trump's political rival, Nikki Haley, 52, refrained from launching fresh attacks on Biden during a campaign event in Richmond. However, she has previously advocated for "mandatory mental competency tests" for politicians older than 75.

Social Media Reactions

Social media platforms buzzed with opinions on the matter, with some users urging for a debate "on live TV" between Trump and Biden - accompanied by cognitive testing - to allow the public to assess both candidates objectively.

"Debate him on live TV," one posted on X.

"They need to do it live in order for us to take it seriously," another insisted.

"'Man, woman, person, camera, TV.' All presidential candidates should undergo mandatory psychological evaluation," someone else offered.

"Well, let's have both of you 'on camera TV' at the same time taking the same test for everyone to see. Then the people can judge for themselves," a comment read.

"They know Biden can't pass the test," another wrote.
