'Tough night for president': Harold Ford Jr discusses Joe Biden's cognitive concerns and their implications for Democrats on 'Fox & Friends'

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The Five' co-host Harold Ford Jr appeared on the February 9 episode of 'Fox & Friends' to share his take on President Joe Biden's press conference that took place after the release of the special counsel report about his handling of classified documents.

The report released by Special Counsel Robert Hur on February 8 stated that Biden did not break the law, and as such will not be facing any criminal charges.

However, it also mentioned that Biden allegedly forgot key details of his life, including information surrounding his time as vice president and his son's death, during pertinent interviews while the probe was being conducted.

How did Joe Biden conduct himself in the press conference?

The President defended his mental state during the press conference when reporters questioned him on his ability to lead the country over the next four years if re-elected into office.

In what many considered to be a direct contradiction of Hur's report, Biden made repeated claims of not sharing classified information.

He also took on Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, Washington Post reporter Tyler Pager and CNN correspondent MJ Lee, verbally, as they questioned him on age-related concerns.

However, he mistakenly refered Egyptian President el-Sisi as the Mexican President when addressing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Harold Ford Jr questions the will of Democrats

Speaking with co-host Brian Kilmeade, Ford Jr said, "I think these questions now are going to come more to the fore. This was a tough night for the president, and I think many in the Democratic Party, which is my party, are going to have serious questions going forward about what this means."

"This last night will be the closing ad in a campaign against President Biden as we get to November. The question is, are Democrats willing to go forward between now and November with a candidate that many in the country may not think is up to the job for four more (years)?"

"The president's lost his fastball," stated the former Tennessee congressman. "President Biden last night, I think even in that interview, even in the press conference there, demonstrated to a lot of Americans what Mr Hur wrote."

Admitting that he thought the possibility of the incumbent President ending his re-election campaign to be "very unlikely" until recently, Ford Jr had a change in opinion.

"But as of right now, I think Democrats are going to have to grapple with this over the next several weeks and few months," he mentioned. "And there are a few elders in the party that can perhaps have this conversation, and we'll see if they do."
