MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump railed about the length of his criminal hush money trial after being in court for the 12th day.

Speaking to reporters outside the Manhattan courthouse on Monday, May 6, after the court wrapped the proceedings for the day, the Republican presumptive nominee complained that the trial was taking too long, as per Raw Story.

"Oh, we just heard two to three more weeks," Trump said.

"I thought they were finished today, and they are finished today if you look at what's happening. I thought they were going to be finished today, and they want two to three more weeks, the judge asked them, and playing right into the judge's hands. The judge is so happy about two to three more weeks, because they all want to keep me off the campaign trail."

He further claimed it was "election interference" and questioned how they would stop it.

However, the White House hopeful's complaint seemed baseless since the trial was expected to go on for about eight weeks when it started. Furthermore, since the trial began on April 15, Trump fell asleep multiple times during the court proceedings.

Trump gets trial timeline wrong

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale was bewildered to hear Trump's fuss and said there was "no basis for thinking the prosecution case would be done today".

Dale, who has debunked several of the ex-president's false claims, pointed at the extensive list of witnesses remaining to testify. This includes Trump's former fixer, Michael Cohen, and the adult film actress who received the hush money payment, Stormy Daniels. The former would likely take some time to take the witness stand.

"Him saying he thought it was gonna be done today, I think, is a curious statement at best," Dale said about Trump's whining

On day 12 of the trial, Judge Juan Merchan threatened Trump with jail time for continuing to violate the gag order despite the $1000 fine. He already paid a $9000 penalty for breaking the order nine times, and on May 6, the judge imposed $1000 more for another violation.

However, the MAGA spearhead seemed unaffected by the threat as he suggested he would continue to speak. After the court session, he said, "Our Constitution is far more important than jail. It's not even close. I'll do that sacrifice any day."

Trump faces 34 counts for falsifying business records to cover up the $130,000 payment to Daniels before the 2016 election in exchange for her silence about their alleged affair.

Internet trolls Trump for fuss over trial length

Social media users trolled Trump for whining about the length of the trial, joking the former president might have fallen asleep during the proceedings.

One user said, "He can catch up on more sleep."

Meanwhile, another quipped, "No goofy, you were finished today."

"If he doesn't want his defense team to present their side of the case, I'm not going to stop him," a third user added.

A fourth response read, "Well when you sleep in court, I guess you miss things."

Another user said, "I think he meant 'I think I was finished today after the jury saw the evidence.'"

Someone else joked, "Trump slept through the trial. Woke up, looked around, and said, 'Are we done yet?'"

An individual wrote, "Do not worry when it is over you will not have to think about it you will be the first to actually KNOW."

"If he had stayed awake during his trial he would have known that," another remarked," and one witty remark read, "Dude thought he had slept through all the way to the end."

A person quipped, "In his dreams he wishes they were done today."

Another user wrote, "Bless his heart. Buckle up cupcake, they’re just getting started."

"Obviously never seen an episode of Perry Mason…" read a mocking response.
