Trump prays Lord’s Prayer with Jonathan Diller’s family during wake
After receiving a personal invitation from Detective Diller's distraught family to honor Diller's life, who was shot and killed during a routine traffic check in Far Rockaway, Queens, Trump took a plane to Long Island on Thursday.
In addition to expressing his sympathies to Diller's young wife Stephanie and their 1-year-old kid Ryan, the Republican presidential candidate told the New York Post that he had promised her he would ensure her husband's passing wasn't in vain.
Moreover, the widow then identified Trump to Duffy as the clergyman who officiated her nuptials a few years prior. Duffy said, "I was able to just say, 'Mr. President, thank you for being here. Thank you for your goodness to this family. Would you be willing to pray with us?' And he said, 'Of course, Father Duffy.'"
Notably, when the whole group said the Lord's Prayer, which begs for God's pardon and defense against Satan, Trump joined in. Duffy added, "Then the President so beautifully turned and kissed baby Ryan on the forehead. And the baby clapped at the president. It just broke the tension."
Following the wake, Trump expressed his confusion about Ryan's lack of comprehension regarding the profound impact of the terrible killing that claimed his father's life.
