WASHINGTON, DC: As Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, begins his prison term for contempt of Congress, former President Donald Trump has once again aimed his rhetoric at President Joe Biden, as per ABC News.

Trump, who continues to allege a "weaponization" of the justice system, has warned that Biden will "pay a big price" for what he describes as unjust actions. In an interview on WRVA, a local radio station in Virginia, Trump asserted that Bannon's imprisonment is part of a broader attempt to silence him and his allies.

Trump said, "Oh, this is pure weaponization. What they've done in this country is unthinkable, and Biden is going to pay a big price for it, I believe. Because I think that people are gonna say, ‘Well, wow, you've opened up a Pandora's box.' This is a terrible thing that they've opened up. They've unleashed this."

Bannon's four-month sentence comes after he was found guilty of defying a subpoena from the House's Select Committee to investigate the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol.

On July 1 Bannon surrendered to law enforcement to start his sentence in a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, following the US Supreme Court's decision to deny his request to remain free during the appeals process.

Trump's remarks about Biden paying "a big price" align with his ongoing rhetoric of "retribution," which has become a key theme of his 2024 reelection campaign as he faces multiple criminal indictments and legal challenges.

Karoline Leavitt, the national press secretary for Trump's campaign, clarified the former president's comments to ABC News. She stated that Trump was referring to the "very big price Joe Biden will pay on November 5 when the American people overwhelmingly vote to evict him from the White House."

"As President Trump has repeatedly stated, his retribution will be victory, success, and making America great again," Leavitt added.

This rhetoric was echoed last week during the first presidential debate in Atlanta. When asked about his idea of "retribution," Trump insisted, "My retribution is going to be success." He further claimed that Biden "could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office," accusing him of committing "horrible things" as president.

Trump has previously vowed to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Biden if he wins a second term.

Donald Trump's warning about Joe Biden paying a 'big price' draws flak online

The internet's reaction to Trump's warning about Biden paying a "big price" was swift and harsh. One Facebook user wrote, "Can’t believe a grown man is such a little whiny boy. He really needs to get over himself." Another commented, "Spoken by Trump like the fascist dictator he wishes to be."

"He knew he was going to face criminal proceedings after he left his Presidency so he loaded the Supreme Court with his selection, now you're witnessing the result. If he gets the Presidency back he'll behave just like Kim Jong-il and Putin, and it will be impossible to vote him out," one user remarked.

Another user simply stated, "Trump NEVER was a hero but he’s the biggest COWARD." "All he does is lie, cheat and make idle threats so sick of him," one user lamented. Another user called Trump out for "projection and confession by Dementia Donnie!"

A seventh user posted, "Trump will continue with his criminal activities lawless ways until he is locked up." Lastly, a user said, "Trump is a vindictive old bully who only spreads hate and division."
