Jill Filipovic urges Jill Biden to 'intervene' and devise Joe Biden's withdrawal from November election
WASHINGTON, DC: Liberal author Jill Filipovic is urging First Lady Jill Biden to persuade her husband to withdraw from the presidential contest after his "catastrophic debate" against former President Donald Trump.
Filipovic criticized President Biden's debate performance in an article for The Daily Beast on Friday, June 28.
She also said it was past time for the Democratic Party to select a new presidential candidate. She urged President Biden's closest allies, including his spouse, to advise the president to resign in order to allow a stronger contender to take on Trump.
Jill Filipovic’s word of wisdom for Jill Biden
The opinion piece penned by Jill Filipovic was headlined, "Jill Biden Must Step Up Now to Help Oust Her Husband." "Right now, we all need her to step up – not to tell her husband what to do, but to push him to really reflect on what is best for the country," the columnist wrote.
Filipovic started her article by analyzing the precarious situation that President Biden's performance put the party in, stating that it now has to decide between supporting an incumbent who is clearly damaged and may lose to Trump or enduring a difficult campaign to unseat him just a few months before November.
Filipovic pointed out "A second Biden term is seeming less and less likely, and Democratic voters and pundits… seem increasingly nervous that we’re marching to our own funeral," but hinted that it's not an easy task to succeed him.
"But the prospect of challenging an incumbent president just a few months before an election also seems hubristic and dangerous, especially when the Democratic Party is deeply divided, the vice president is unpopular and has been largely marginalized, and there is no obvious Plan B,” she added.
Jill Filipovic called the Biden-Trump debate 'catastrophic' for Joe Biden
The debate, according to the author, was "catastrophic" for the president and served as a "wake-up call" for supporters of Joe Biden, who "does indeed come across as a struggling elderly man who may be kind and respectable but increasingly lacks the cognitive sharpness to hold the most powerful office in the world."
After the debate, a number of other liberal pundits expressed similar opinions regarding Biden's mental health.
Jill Filipovic declares that the Democratic Party is in a 'no-good very-bad place to be'
Author Jill Filipovic declared that the Democratic Party is in a "no-good very-bad place to be" due to Joe Biden's mental state and the "enormous" threat posed by Donald Trump's second term.
She noted that although Biden's decision to run for a second term was "understandable," it was also "overconfident and wrong."
She then appealed to Biden's close friends and family, especially his wife, to convince him to resign.
"It's time for Biden’s inner circle to do the hardest things friends, colleagues, and loved ones can do: Intervene, knowing it will be tremendously hurtful to the person you care about. The needed interventionists include Biden’s long-time friends and advisers, including those closest to him in the White House; it includes his Democratic predecessors Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, both sharp political and strategic minds. And it must include his wife,” she said.
"But she is in a uniquely influential position, and she does seem to be an intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate person who her husband listens to for a reason," Filipovic continued.
"Right now, we all need her to step up—not to tell her husband what to do, but to push him to really reflect on what is best for the country, and the hard choices that may be necessary to save it," she concluded.
President Biden is still running for office and has made no indication that he intends to withdraw despite these suggestions.
