WASHINGTON, DC: During a campaign speech on Friday, June 28 in Virginia, former President Donald Trump targeted former First Lady Michelle Obama, according to Newsweek.

Speaking to supporters the day after taking on President Joe Biden in the first debate of the 2024 race, Trump addressed apprehensions expressed by certain Democratic Party members over the president's performance on Thursday, June 27, and how it will affect him in November.

Donald Trump told supporters, "Many people are saying that after last night's performance, Joe Biden is leaving the race. But the fact is, I don't really believe that because he does better in polls than any of the Democrats are talking about."

Trump continued by asserting that surveys had been conducted to gauge how various Democrats, including prominent figures like Michelle Obama, would fare against him in a hypothetical scenario.

"They polled everybody. They polled Michelle Obama, she polls very badly. No, she polls terribly," he said.

During Thursday night's debate, Democrats reportedly entered a state of "panic" as Biden briefly struggled, sounding hoarse and taking his time to respond. An assistant to the president informed Newsweek that Biden was suffering from a cold at the time.

Concerns about the president's age and mental health were raised due to his performance, leading some progressive members of his party to call for Democrats to choose a new nominee before November.

Political analysts informed Newsweek that while Biden won the debate "on points," his demeanor likely harmed his chances of winning reelection.

The former first lady has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Biden, but her office has stated she has no plans to enter politics.

Polling suggests Obama would trail Trump by approximately seven percentage points in a hypothetical matchup.

Obama's office said in a statement with NBC News in March, "As former first lady, Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president. Mrs Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' reelection campaign."
