WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has declared that Joe Biden will no longer have access to intelligence briefings or classified materials. The decision, announced on Trump’s Truth Social account, is being widely interpreted as political payback.

In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump stated, "There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings,” as reported by BBC.

Trump framed the move as a direct response to Biden stripping him of security clearance after the January 6 Capitol riot. “He set this precedent in 2021,” Trump stated.

This move mirrors Biden’s own 2021 decision to deny Trump post-presidency intelligence briefings, citing concerns over Trump’s “erratic behavior” following his election defeat.

This was just the latest step in Trump’s wave of payback, which kicked off mere hours after his second inauguration. Among his first actions, revoking security clearance and Secret Service protection for John Bolton, the former national security adviser turned outspoken critic.

Trump built his campaign on vows to target his political adversaries within the government, taking particular aim at intelligence agencies and law enforcement.

His crackdown escalated this week when FBI agents sued his administration, seeking to block the public release of names tied to the 2021 investigation into the January 6 riot, an effort to challenge the 2020 election outcome.

Trump declared in his second inaugural address, "Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponised to persecute political opponents."

On his first night back in office, Trump wasted no time, signing an executive order targeting the so-called “weaponization” of government.

The order called for sweeping investigations into US intelligence agencies, vowing to correct “past misconduct” with “appropriate action.”

Justifying his decision to revoke Biden’s security clearance, Trump pointed to the politically damaging 2024 report by Justice Department special counsel Robert Hur, which described Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

“The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information,” Trump declared. “I will always protect our National Security  JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Former US presidents have long been granted access to intelligence briefings after leaving office as a matter of tradition.
