Donald Trump trolled for attacking Jack Smith's move to bar him from telling jury Joe Biden targeted him
WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump has unleashed a scathing attack on Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith for allegedly disregarding a DC court order temporarily halting proceedings in his election interference case.
Trump took to social media on Wednesday, December 27, accusing Smith of attempting to restrict his speech and interfering in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Donald Trump's allegations against Jack Smith
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, "Crooked Joe Biden's errand boy, Deranged Jack Smith, is obsessed with attacking your favorite President, me, and with interfering in the 2024 Presidential Election, which I am Dominating."
Trump further asserted that Smith's actions defied the law and clear instructions from the DC Court to stay the case.
"Deranged Jack is so Viciously and Desperately Angry that the Supreme Court just unanimously rejected his flailing attempt to rush this Witch Hunt that he is ignoring the Law and clear instructions from the D.C. Court that this 'case' should be stayed, and there cannot be any more filings," he continued.
The legal saga began on December 13 when District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan temporarily paused legal proceedings in Trump's case related to alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election results.
This decision followed the former president's appeal of Chutkan's ruling not to dismiss the four-count federal indictment based on presidential immunity.
Trump, maintaining his innocence, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The former POTUS continued his tirade against Smith, calling his recent motion "pathetic" and accusing it of being both "illegal" and an "unconstitutional attempt" to curtail his First Amendment rights.
"Today's pathetic motion [by Smith] is not just illegal; it is also another Unconstitutional attempt to take away my First Amendment Rights and to prevent me from saying the TRUTH — that all of these Hoaxes are nothing but a political persecution of me, the MAGA Movement, and the Republican Party by Crooked Joe and his Despicable Thugs," Trump further wrote.
"The Radical Left Communists, Marxists, and Fascists are petrified of me speaking the TRUTH because the American People don't want them destroying our Country. Make America Great Again!" he concluded.

Donald Trump faces social media backlash
Critics of Trump, however, trolled the former president for his comments on social media.
"Hahahaha!!! You’re literally NOBODY's favorite president! You’re a laughing stock to the world!! Nobody likes you! GO AWAY… FOREVER!!!" one posted on X (formerly Twitter). "No caps? Must not be important," another joked.

"If you're innocent you have no problem going to court to prove it you think you'd want to. But you know you're not innocent and you're guilty as hell," someone else alleged.
"All them words wasted. It should say 'I'm guilty and I'm going to jail,'" another added.

One person also wrote, "To describe anyone as being “Crooked” when YOU are the one facing 91 counts and 4 indictments and that “crooked” person is not facing a single count seems to be next level projection. Loser."
A fifth person mocked the former president by saying, "My my there must be new evidence coming down on you You’re in rabid panic mode , diaper don."

Another pointed out how much Trump is posting, noting, "Someone is in panic mode, or just fundraising to cover his legal bills...lol. Can't stop ranting and posting," as another added, "I've never known an innocent man to complain twenty times a day about the wheels of justice turning too quickly exonerating him."

Jack Smith's unusual legal maneuvers
Jack Smith reportedly filed a motion asking a Washington, DC, federal judge to exclude Trump's attempts to inject politics into the January 6 case, emphasizing the need to maintain focus on factual findings and legal instructions.
Smith argued that Trump's claims of selective and vindictive prosecution, as well as complaints about interference with political activities, should be excluded from the trial.
The motion also revealed that Trump has referred to his charges as one of several "Biden Indictments" by "his Injustice Department" and expressed concerns about the grand jury's indictment interfering with his political activities.
“In addition to being wrong, these allegations are irrelevant to the jury’s determination of the defendant’s guilt or innocence, would be prejudicial if presented to the jury, and must be excluded,” the special counsel wrote. “Before this Court, the defense has repeatedly used rhetoric that may be acceptable on the campaign trail but not in a trial.”
The US Supreme Court, on December 22, denied Smith a quick decision on the immunity question, prompting prosecutors to pursue the matter through regular order. On Christmas Eve, Trump's lawyers appealed Chutkan's ruling to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, citing the legal principle of double jeopardy.
Notably, Smith's decision to continue filing motions in district court for a case under stay has raised eyebrows. A former federal prosecutor told the New York Post that this move is rare and could potentially lead to sanctions, describing it as a "flagrant violation" of Chutkan's stay order.
The motive behind Smith's actions appears to be preventing any delay of Trump's scheduled trial on March 4, 2024, which falls one day before Super Tuesday. Trump is currently the front-runner among Republican presidential candidates.
