PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has sought help from former Democratic Rep Tulsi Gabbard to prepare for his upcoming debate against Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Trump and Harris are set to face off in an ABC News debate on September 10. Both the participants had confirmed their participation last week, according to the New York Post.

Trump had debated President Joe Biden in a CNN debate on June 27. After Biden's poor performance in the debate, there were calls from within his party and across for him to drop out of the presidential race. Concerns were raised about his ability to lead the country for another term.

Finally, Biden pulled out of the 2024 race and endorsed Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee.

A Trump campaign spokesperson said that Trump had spoken with Tulsi Gabbard. However, they dismissed the idea that he was engaging in traditional debate preparations before his September 10 face-off with Kamala Harris.

Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, "President Trump has proven to be one of the best debaters in political history as evidenced by his knockout blow to Joe Biden."

She added, "He does not need traditional debate prep but will continue to meet with respected policy advisors and effective communicators like Tulsi Gabbard, who successfully dominated Kamala Harris on the debate stage."

Gabbard left the Democratic Party after her 2020 presidential run and has been vocal in her support for Trump. She was even speculated to become his running mate for the 2024 race.

Gabbard’s most notable moment from her 2020 White House bid was when she slammed Harris on the debate stage over her record as a prosecutor.

She also criticized Harris during the July 2019 primary debate for putting more than 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations.

"She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana," said Gabbard.

She accused Harris of blocking evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row.

Gabbard said, "There is no excuse for that and the people who suffered under your reign as prosecutor, you owe them an apology."

Harris initially denied the criticism, saying candidates should be judged "when they’re in the position to actually make a decision, what do they do".

In the next debate, Harris slammed Gabbard for attacking Barack Obama while he was in office, for refusing to call Syria’s Bashar al-Assad a 'war criminal', and for fostering ties with Trump allies.
