LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Donald Trump has promised to “get SALT back” in his recent Truth Social post.

The former president’s statement on The State And Local Tax deduction came on Tuesday, September 17, ahead of his rally in New York.

“Nassau Coliseum, on Long Island, will be a really big deal tomorrow. It will be PACKED with Patriots! We have a real chance of winning, for the first time in many decades, New York,” he wrote on his social media.

Donald Trump addressed his supporters, “Hundreds of thousands of Migrants, Crime at record levels, Terrorists pouring in, Inflation eating your hearts out - WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? VOTE FOR TRUMP! I will turn it around, get SALT back, lower your Taxes, and so much more. I’ll work with the Democrat Governor and Mayor, and make sure the funding is there to bring New York State back to levels it hasn’t seen for 50 years.”

“People are fleeing, maybe we’ll get them to “flee back!” See you at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday at 7 P.M. EST!” he concluded his long post.

This is a major step back from Trump, after announcing his controversial tax policy in 2017, called the SALT deduction cap.

It was instituted at $10,000 in tax cuts, and was criticized in Democratic states. “I’ve always been for eliminating the cap on SALT. I think it was a nasty piece of legislation, supported by Donald Trump, aimed at the blue states, which help the people of their states in many ways,” said Senate majority leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday, per The Hill.

Other States where taxpayers are likely to benefit most from a SALT cap withdrawal include New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, California, and Pennsylvania, per the Joint Committee for Taxation, reported Morning Star.

Internet slams Donald Trump for taking U-turn on SALT tax policy

Netizens questioned Donald Trump over his controversial 2017 tax policy, and his decision to withdraw just ahead of the November election. The former president's announcement came a day before his campaign rally in Long Island.

One person expressed on X, "Pandering to his NY buddies. Not surprising. I actually do better with my taxes with the Trump tax cuts as compared to SALT. Shocking, I know. 😂."

"Citizens of high tax states shouldn't be asking folks in low tax states to pay for the taxes they voted for. You want high taxes, you pay them, don't pass it on to us. It's no wonder that you're not welcome anywhere. Please stay where you are," another opined.

An individual shared, "As a high earner in CA, the SALT cap absolutely killed me, but it's the right thing to do. The rest of the country shouldn't be subsidizing profligate spending in blue states."

One netizen chimed, "SALT = State And Local Tax His 2017 eliminated SALT deductions on Federal Tax returns meaning CA and NY who have high SALT paid more in taxes after his tax code took effect. Perfect example of him creating a problem then fixing the problem he created."
