Donald Trump's rally shooting victim James Copenhaver suffers 'life-altering' injuries, family calls him 'tough guy'

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: James 'Jim' Copenhaver, 74, who was critically wounded during the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 15, remains in critical condition. 

Copenhaver suffered 'life-altering' injuries and is still hospitalized but in stable condition, his family said in a statement.

James 'Jim' Copenhaver's family expresses gratitude and prayers for other victims

Copenhaver's family has expressed gratitude for everyone involved in saving his life besides those who have expressed support and are praying for his full recovery.

"The Copenhaver family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support for James ‘Jim’ as he recovers from the injuries that he tragically sustained during Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024," his family said in a statement, Fox News reports.

"Jim would like to especially thank the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who have provided him with initial and continuing care," his family further wrote in the statement.

"Additionally, Jim would like to express his thoughts and prayers for the other victims, their families, and President Trump. He prays for a safe and speedy recovery for them all," the statement continued.

James 'Jim' Copenhaver is a tough guy despite life-altering injuries 

Joseph Feldman, a spokesperson for the Copenhaver family and attorney for the Law Offices of Max C Feldman, told Fox News that Copenhaver remains in critical but stable condition and was able to speak on Tuesday, July 16.

"He's a tough guy," Feldman said. The family added that Copenhaver's injuries were "life-altering."

"The Copenhaver family would like to thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers, and support as Jim and his family recover from this horrible, senseless, and unnecessary act of violence," they wrote.

Federal authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the shooter Thomas Crooks' assassination attempt on Trump.

Pennsylvania State Police identified the other victim wounded at the rally as 57-year-old David Dutch of New Kensington, Pennsylvania.

Dutch was in stable condition as of Tuesday, July 16. His friends told the publication that he sustained two gunshot wounds at the rally.

State police also identified 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter from Buffalo Township, as the victim who died on Saturday, July 13, after he was shot while protecting his wife and daughters from gunfire.

Internet urges Jim Copenhagen to keep fighting 

The internet has been praying for James 'Jim' Copenhaver's recovery. Keeping his family in their prayers the users are urging him to keep fighting. 

"Prayers going up for this man. Fight, Jim, Fight!" wrote one X user. 

Another user wrote, "You Sir are a Great American! Prayers!"

"Kim Cheadle needs to resign," wrote one X user suggesting the Director of the US Secret Service resign amid growing calls for having allowed the former President to come in the line direct line with the shooter.
