NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During the May 15 episode of 'The Five' Fox News host, Jesse Watters dismissed claims that former President Donald Trump had been sleeping in court. Instead, he asserted that the 45th president had been "meditating" during the proceedings.

Watters made these comments, responding to several accusations that Trump has been observed sleeping during his New York hush money trial over the past three weeks.

Watters makes bizzare claim in support of Trump's sleepiness in court

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman reported that Trump had his eyes closed for "significant portions" of witness testimony, a observation that was confirmed by Times reporter Jesse McKinley.

On the other hand, CNN reported that Trump kept his eyes shut while leaning back in his chair during testimony, even during his own legal team’s cross-examination of Gary Farro, the banker who worked for Trump’s former fixer Michael Cohen, the central figure in the hush money allegations.

However, Watters dismissed all such claims and made a bizarre claim, "You have a guy who said the guy’s sleeping. He’s meditating, Greg. He’s in a meditative state, and when you’re defensive about something, you avoid something."

He added, "Trump’s not defensive of being old and tired. He can shut his eyes and not feel bad about it like Sleepy Joe."

As per The Daily Beast, Watters has consistently supported Trump throughout his legal proceedings, raising concerns about the fairness of the jury selection process at the start of the trial in April.

In the subsequent week, he expressed worry over the courtroom temperature, suggesting that it was excessively cold and potentially uncomfortable for Trump.

Did Trump deny falling asleep in court?

Earlier this month, Trump refuted allegations of sleeping in court, asserting his alertness in a post on Truth Social.

“Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today,” wrote Trump, adding, “I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, listen intensely, and take it ALL in!!!”

However, President Joe Biden couldn't resist poking fun at Trump’s alleged courtroom naps.

As per The White House report, Biden thanked his donors for the warm welcome and quipped, "But please keep it down because Donald Trump is sleeping. 'Sleepy Don,'" at a private fundraiser on May 10,

Despite the mockery and contrary to previous CNN reports, Trump found some support from three CNN analysts, who noted that the trial was "boring" and acknowledged that Trump is "an old man."

CNN commentator Lulu Garcia-Navarro said, “What I would say is, first of all, he’s old. And old men take naps. It was a long proceeding."

Viewers heavily criticized Jesse Watters' assertion that Donald Trump was in a "meditative state" during his court appearances.

One viewer shared, "What would his mantra be?"

In a similar vein, another observer chimed in, "Sure sure, he was not farting either, he was whistling."

Moreover, a viewer highlighted, "And he didn’t giggle when he said this?" Adding to the conversation, a follower contributed, "Don't believe your lying eyes."

A comment emphasized, "Sure, Jesse, because the people in the same room are too stupid to know what sleeping looks like. A 6-year-old knows what it looks like." [sic]
