BASTROP, TEXAS: Elon Musk has confirmed that he will be attending Donald Trump’s upcoming rally on Saturday, October 5, which is set to take place at the same location where a gunman attempted to assassinate the former president in July.

In a post on Donald Trump’s X account on Thursday, October 3, the Republican presidential nominee described the forthcoming rally as “HISTORIC!” and Musk responded by stating, “I will be there to support!”

July assassination attempt against Donald Trump and its aftermath

On July 13, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire during one of Donald Trump’s speeches, wounding the former president and three rally attendees.

The 78-year-old politician sustained a minor injury to his ear while the incident claimed the life of one rally-goer and Crooks was swiftly neutralized by counter-snipers at the event.

The upcoming rally on Saturday, October 5, will mark Trump’s first return to the site of the attack.

The Trump campaign released a statement, noting that the rally would take place “on the very same ground where [Trump] came within a quarter of an inch of losing his life.”

The campaign highlighted that the GOP nominee’s survival has been viewed by many as an act of “divine providence," according to The Daily Beast.

Elon Musk’s public endorsement of Donald Trump

Elon Musk, who initially endorsed Donald Trump shortly after the assassination attempt in July, has emerged as one of Trump’s most high-profile supporters.

In recent months, the two have formed a political alliance with the SpaceX CEO hosting a live interview with the former president in August and frequently attacking Trump’s political opponents, including Vice President Kamala Harris.

He recently declared that Trump is “the only way” to protect American democracy by sharing his views with his 200 million followers on X.

The former president, who has warmly welcomed the support, has even suggested appointing Musk as the head of a new government efficiency commission, should he win the November election.

Increased security following multiple assassination attempts against Donald Trump

The assassination attempt in July placed the Secret Service under intense scrutiny of security lapses, with the then-director Kimberly Cheatle being forced to resign.

Security measures surrounding Donald Trump have since been significantly increased, especially after a second assassination attempt at Trump’s Florida golf course in September.

During the incident in September, Secret Service agents opened fire on an alleged gunman who targeted the former president.

With the upcoming rally set to take place in the same site as the July attack, concerns about safety remain high.

Trump recently acknowledged that he remains vigilant about security following the terrifying incidents, stating, “Well, I’m always worried.”
