BOCA CHICA, TEXAS: Elon Musk had a meltdown on his social media platform regarding the future of his Mars program if Vice President Kamala Harris was elected in November.

On Sunday, September 22, in a rather lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), the tech mogul claimed Harris entering the White House would "destroy the Mars program and doom humanity."

Musk also accused President Joe Biden's administration of red tape, saying SpaceX's Mars program was "smothered by a mountain of government bureaucracy."

The billionaire, who backed Biden in 2020, endorsed Donald Trump in July following the first assassination attempt against the former president.

Elon Musk claims Kamala Harris presidency would be end of Mars program

Elon Musk touted his ambition to colonize Mars but asserted a Democratic administration would hinder humanity's potential to become multi-planetary.

He began with SpaceX's plan to send five uncrewed Starships to Mars within two years and, if successful, to launch crewed missions in four years. Pointing out the difficulties in travel to Mars, Musk added SpaceX would nevertheless exponentially increase the number of Mars missions before delving into reasoning why Harris could hinder his ambitions.

"The fundamental existential question is whether humanity becomes sustainably multi-planetary before something happens on Earth to prevent that, for example, nuclear war, a supervirus or population collapse that weakens civilization to the point where it loses the ability to send supply ships to Mars," the Tesla CEO asserted.

"While I have many concerns about a potential Kamala regime, my absolute showstopper is that the bureaucracy currently choking America to death is guaranteed to grow under a Democratic Party administration," he continued.

"This would destroy the Mars program and doom humanity," Musk claimed and urged his followers to help to avoid the doom. "This is a fork, maybe the fork, in the road of human destiny," he added.

Musk's meltdown might have stemmed from Trump's comments at a North Carolina rally on September 21, as per The Daily Beast.

The GOP presidential nominee said he would "talk to Elon" to get the "rocket ships going" if he was elected. The latest national pollings show Harris slightly leading Trump, forcing the latter to push for endeavors beyond the Earth.

However, Harris, on the other hand, is no stranger to extraterrestrial matters. As the National Space Council chair since 2021, the vice president earned a positive reputation for bringing together 40 countries to sign the Artemis Accords, a set of principles aimed at steering civil space exploration in the 21st century.

Internet ridicules Elon Musk

Elon Musk's rant that a potential Harris presidency would kill the Mars program sparked brutal mockery online. Netizens claimed the tech giant was having a "billionaire brain rot" and urged him to focus on Earth rather than outer space.

"My god he is such a drama queen," a user wrote.

"If @elonmusk spent half as much time using his ‘genius’ to help this planet instead of trying to escape it, the world would be a better place," another remarked.

"Billionaire brain rot is real, y'all. And it affects us all," added a third user.

"The Mars program is not going to save humanity. Lol. Elon is a crazy person. Totally unserious about everything," read a fourth response.

"Personally, I'm enjoying watching his descent into madness as he comes to terms with realizing that being the richest person in the world doesn't mean he has complete control over everything and everyone," someone else said.

"It's OK if earth doesn't survive as long as we reach Mars *sarcasm*," an individual quipped.

"A little self centered, Mars isn’t going anywhere. We’re concerned about our democracy," read one remark.

"Being endorsed by Trump has a depressing effect…" another user added.
