NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump asked the judge overseeing the New York civil fraud case to delay the enforcement of a $355 million penalty against him for one month, reported CNN.

In a letter to Judge Arthur Engoron sent on Wednesday, February 21, Trump's attorneys, on behalf of all the defendants, including the former President's sons, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, asked the judge to postpone the penalties for an "orderly post-judgment process."

The request was made in the wake of NY attorney general Letitia James's 'unilateral submission' to enforce the judgment just days after the verdict was announced.

On February 16, the GOP frontrunner was hit with a massive $355 million penalty along with a three-year ban from serving in any New York corporations for fraudulently inflating the price of his properties in the state for decades to secure favorable bank loans.

The former President's attorney, Robert Clifford, criticized the New York attorney general's move after she submitted a draft judgment that would start the countdown for the penalties less than a week after the verdict, as per ABC News.

Pointing out that James has not filed any motion to settle the proposed judgment, the letter claimed her move violated the accepted practices of the NY state court.

The attorneys stated that if the judge opts to enter the attorney general's judgment, the defendants "request the Court stay enforcement of that Judgment for thirty (30) days. Given that the court-appointed monitor continues to be in place, there is no prejudice to the Attorney General in briefly staying enforcement to allow for an orderly post-Judgment process, particularly given the magnitude of Judgment."

"Defendants reiterate their request that the Court set a return date for the proposed Judgment that affords Defendants sufficient time to submit a proposed counter-Judgment," the letter read.

Trump has 30 days to pay the penalty or post a bond once Judge Engoron signs the judgment order.

The ex-president, denying all the accusations against him, slammed the judge and the attorney general for election interference and pledged to appeal the decision. However, each day Trump delays paying the penalty, an additional $87,000 will be added to the $355 million as interest.

Internet wants Donald Trump to pay fine

Internet users voiced their opposition to Trump's latest demand in the civil fraud case. Emphasizing that the ex-president should not be granted any more delays, some mockingly claimed he might be waiting for the profits from his newly launched sneaker line.

One user wrote, "No, Enough delays. Pay up or seize his property."

Another remarked, "He has alot of nerve asking the judge he trashes for anything."

"Why? Isn't he "filthy rich?" "A billionaire?" a third individual chimed in. Another user added, "Wait, he's a self professed billionaire. He should have ample access to funds even if he has to liquidate assets."

One person said, "Hopefully this will be denied quickly." A sixth response read, "Trump doesn't have the money and his lawyers are trying to delay until they get paid."

A Facebook user commented, "No way should Trump be granted a delay. He’s had all this time to play the fraud games. Now it’s time square up his due!" And another mockingly added, "He needs time for the sneaker profit to come in!"
