NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A handwritten note allegedly written by Jeffrey Epstein before he tried to kill himself in 2019 was made public on Wednesday, May 6, following a court order in New York.
The document, described as barely legible, surfaced years after it was reportedly discovered inside the Manhattan jail cell Epstein shared with former police officer and convicted murderer Nicholas Tartaglione.
The note was released after a petition by The New York Times and included statements in which Epstein appeared to insist investigators had “found nothing” against him. The disclosure has renewed attention on the disgraced financier’s final weeks in custody before his death in August 2019.
Jeffrey Epstein note reveals final jail remarks
The handwritten note allegedly written before Epstein tried to kill himself in July 2019 included several rambling remarks about the investigation against him.
“They investigated for month - found nothing!!!” the note read. “So 16 year old charge results!” “It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye,” another line stated.

The note also included the phrase: “Watcha want me to do - bust out crying!!” followed by, “NO FUN - not worth it!!”
According to the New York Post, the note was written after Epstein tried to hang himself inside Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center days after his arrest.
Jeffrey Epstein note found in Manhattan jail cell
Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein’s former cellmate, allegedly found the handwritten note and later gave it to his lawyers as evidence supporting his claim that he did not attack Epstein.
Epstein had initially blamed Tartaglione for injuries found on his neck after the July 2019 incident. However, Tartaglione denied assaulting him and argued the note showed Epstein had tried to kill himself.
Tartaglione’s legal team later claimed the handwriting had been verified as Epstein’s, according to The New York Times.
The document reportedly remained sealed for years as part of Tartaglione’s legal proceedings before being released through a court order.
Questions grow after Jeffrey Epstein jail death
Jeffrey Epstein died in August 2019 while being held at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. His death was ruled a suicide.
However, multiple conspiracy theories emerged after reports revealed security cameras near his jail cell were malfunctioning and guards assigned to monitor the area had reportedly fallen asleep.
Public scrutiny also intensified because of Epstein’s connections to several powerful public figures, including politicians, business leaders, and celebrities.
Attorney Alan Dershowitz recently told the New York Post’s ‘Pod Force One’ podcast that Epstein allegedly held damaging information on only one prominent individual, though he did not identify the person publicly.
