ST LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump's son Eric Trump was appointed as a special deputy sheriff in St Lucie County, Florida, on Tuesday, October 8, reported Meidas News. The development was a surprise for many, as neither he nor anyone in his immediate family has ever served in the military or law enforcement, or has the requisite training.

According to the publication, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Sheriff Keith Peterson, who is responsible for deputizing the third child of the former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump.

He is currently seeking reelection himself on a Republican ticket and may have taken this initiative to garner the support of some influential individuals within the party.

Eric Trump's reaction to being appointed special deputy sheriff

Eric Trump took to Instagram to share photographs of his appointment. They were accompanied by a short caption which read, "I have always wanted to become a Sheriff! Thank you Sheriff Keith Pearson and the incredible men and women of the St Lucie County Sheriff's Office. Truly and honor!"

While his lack of training and testing is a major cause for concern, Florida law allows the appointment of special deputies without them as long as they meet the minimum standards to be hired as a recruit-trainee.

Unfortunately, special deputies are also granted the power to arrest people under the same statute.

Controversies surrounding Sheriff Keith Peterson

Keith Peterson was reportedly promoted to sheriff by DeSantis after his predecessor's, Ken Mascara, unexpected retirement in December.

He has since been embroiled in many controversies, which includes being named in a criminal probe by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement into allegations that Mascara propped up a ghost candidate to run against him in the 2020 election, with the help of other members of the sheriff's office.

After posting a copy of his primary ballot in March on social media, Peterson faced criminal investigation, but the prosecutor refused to press charges. He has also been accused of using taxpayer funds and law enforcement staff in his reelection campaign.

Internet trolls Eric Trump after appointment as special deputy sheriff

Netizens called out Eric Trump's surprise appointment as a deputy sheriff while reacting to the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"Eric Trump is now a 'sheriff.' Didn't work for it, was just handed it. Like his whole f**king family. My son is an actual #DeputySheriff. He worked for it, does daily. He has to update his gun skills, tests for various skills routinely. He doesn't get to play cop. He lives it," wrote a user.

"What the heck? This is embarrassing for all involved," noted another.

"Clown cops get new clown," quipped a third.

"I guess he has his Halloween costume figured out," mocked a fourth.

"Is this like grade school where you play pretend-I’m-a-cop? PLEASE," echoed a fifth.

"Lord help Florida," posted yet another.
