WASHINGTON, DC: Former Obama advisor David Axelrod said that since President Joe Biden is falling behind former President Donald Trump in the battleground states, it is debatable whether he ought to resign. "He really needs a royal flush to win this race," Axelrod said on CNN on Friday, July 12.

Biden's supporters and a number of media personalities have urged the president to drop out of the contest following his unimpressive debate performance from last month, Fox News reports.

What did David Axelrod say about Joe Biden?

"The president's been behind for 10 months, consistently in this data" Axelrod said, adding "[According to] deeper data that the analytics people look at, he is now behind in all the battleground states and in some cases, well behind, beyond the margin of error."

"So, yes, of course he can win," Axelrod said. "Anyone can win. But given the stakes, and I think this is what those Democratic officials are thinking, given the stakes, the fact that he can win is not a persuasive argument. The question is: what are the odds that he would win, and would we have a better chance with someone else? That‘s the question everybody is pondering," he added.

Axelrod said that Biden is surrounded by a "very small coterie of advisors who he actually trusts and listens to" about his candidacy. "The president is pretty insulated," he continued.

"There are certain immutable facts of life," Axelrod said in an interview with CNN while discussing Biden's age and leadership. "Those were painfully obvious on that debate stage. The president just … hasn't come to grips with it. He’s not winning this race. He seems not to grasp what the big concern is that people have," Axelrod added.

The US president will turn 82 in November and is already the oldest president in American history.

Internet backs David Axelrod as Joe Biden trails behind Donald Trump

Netizens agreed with the ex-Obama advisor after he voiced his concern about the US president's subpar performance. Several media polls have indicated that Trump has got the upper hand when it comes to the upcoming election against Biden this year and it has sparked a major panic in the Democratic camp.

One X user tweeted, "He will probably get flushed out before that..." and another wrote, "He need more drugs!" One user lashed out at Biden, saying, "He's got it in the form of non-citizen voters," indicating the illegal immigrants.

"Biden and his people know that that is why they are busy printing up new royal flush cards to flood all precincts in America," remarked one user while another jibed, "There is nothing more easier than removing Biden and replacing him with someone else more electable but seems the establishment doesn’t want to have dems win this term as from among their ranks has been the loudest voices anti genocide pro Palestine!"
