Internet backs Donald Trump as recent poll states most Americans want Joe Biden to drop out of 2024 race
WASHINGTON, DC: A vast majority of Americans, including most of President Joe Biden's supporters, want him to withdraw from the presidential race, according to a poll conducted on Thursday, July 11, by ABC News and the Washington Post.
A whopping 67% of participants believe Biden ought to withdraw from the race and 85% believe he is too elderly to run for office again. In the meantime, 60% of respondents, up from 44% in the spring of 2023, also believed that former President Trump was too old to serve a second term.
Majority of self-professed Joe Biden supporters want him to drop out
Nearly 62% percent of Democrats and voters who identified as leaning Democrat believe Biden should withdraw from the race. Even among those who claim to be Biden supporters, 54% believe he should resign.
In spite of this, the poll revealed a virtual tie between Biden and Trump with 46% of respondents saying they would support the incumbent president and 47% saying they would vote for Trump.
The poll found better outcomes for Democrats if VP Kamala Harris were to replace Joe Biden
Better chances for Democrats, according to the poll, would result from Vice President Kamala Harris challenging Biden as the party's nominee. According to that poll, 49% of respondents supported Harris and 46% supported Trump.
The Thursday poll was conducted online via the probability-based Ipsos KnowledgePanel from July 5-9. The poll was conducted in both English and Spanish and sampled 2,431 US adults. The poll advertises a margin of error of 2%.
