WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Barack Obama was apparently aware of George Clooney's guest essay in the New York Times according to a new report in which he called for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race, but he made no objections.

George Clooney, a significant Democratic donor who just a few weeks prior organized a sumptuous fundraiser for Biden, demanded in a devastating essay published in the New York Times on Wednesday, July 10, that Biden must resign due to mounting worries about his mental state, which were exacerbated following his disastrous presidential debate.

Politico claimed that George Clooney contacted Barack Obama in advance to let him know about the upcoming story, but Obama made no attempt to stop him.

"While Obama did not encourage or advise Clooney to say what he said, he also didn’t object to it, we’re told from people familiar with their exchange. The lack of pushback is an eye-popping revelation given that the former president was one of the first big voices defending Biden following his abysmal debate performance (while many of his former aides have been some of the incumbent’s biggest critics)," the outlet reported.

"Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign," Clooney continued.

George Clooney became the latest in a long line of Hollywood heavyweights and megadonors to demand Joe Biden's resignation after the debate when his halting, fragile performance startled supporters.

Liberal media personalities, political allies, and members of Biden's party have also put pressure on the president to withdraw from the contest, claiming he cannot defeat former President Donald Trump.

This week, however, Biden has reaffirmed his candidacy to supporters and media outlets, despite growing calls for him to withdraw.
