WASHINGTON, DC: CNN host Jake Tapper was taken aback by the bizarre response provided by the White House to Hollywood actor George Clooney asking President Joe Biden to step out of the race on Wednesday, July 10, reported Mediaite.

Voices across the aisle have been growing against the incumbent being at the top of the Democratic ticket since his abysmal performance at the first presidential debate against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump on June 27, where Tapper functioned as a co-moderator.

Clooney happens to be a recent addition to an increasing number of heavyweight Democrats speaking out their concern over Biden's mental acuity for four more years at the top office in the country.

Back in June, the actor had hosted a fundraiser for the presumptive Democratic nominee in Los Angeles, where the campaign collected more than $28 million.

In an op-ed published in The New York Times on Wednesday, Clooney wrote, "The Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Biden campaign responds to George Clooney's comments

Senior White House correspondent Kayla Tausche told Tapper on Wednesday, "In response to those comments from George Clooney, a campaign official who attended that Los Angeles fundraiser tells me that George Clooney left three hours before the President, so clearly the gloves are off."

"What... What does that mean that George Clooney left three hours... What's the point?" inquired Tapper.

"The point of that is to suggest that Biden’s stamina is better than Clooney’s. And Clooney didn’t have, you know, eyes on the entire event. That’s the response to the Clooney op-ed," replied Tausche.

Tapper acknowledged her with an incredulous "Okay."

Internet reacts to Jake Tapper's response

Social media users reacted to Jake Tapper's response to Biden campaign's reply.

"This is becoming the farce of all modern elections," wrote a person.

"This was going to be the party and administration that had NO CHAOS. CHAOS should be their code name. Operation Chaos," mocked another.

"So basically Joe is now daring his supporters to kick him out. Its a straight up challenging at this point. He's doing exactly what he accused Trump of planning to do," observed a third.

"Biden supporters are America's laughing stock," jibed a fourth.

"Gawd. This is MAGA levels of gaslighting," remarked a fifth.
