Sean Duffy’s wife reveals Trump made him Transportation Sec ‘because that was all that’s left’

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 1, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a Fox News host, shared that President Trump chose her husband, Sean Duffy, as Transportation Secretary largely because it was the only Cabinet position left open.

She shared the story while speaking with Katie Miller on ‘The Katie Miller Podcast.’ When asked what happened when the offer was made, Rachel described the conversation involving her husband.

"He said he wanted to serve the president in any way," she said. "He ended up in transportation because that was all that's left."

Interjecting, Duffy, a former Fox host himself, clarified, “But the president told me, and I believe this with him, he said, ‘If I wasn’t the president, I would pick the Department of Transportation over any department."

"It’s the best department, and I’m gonna give it to you, because he’s a builder, and whether it’s roads and bridges, like he’s talking about concrete and bridges and designs and colors, and he loves aviation so that we have a president who cares about, um, the infrastructure of America. Usually, presidents don’t give a darn.”

“He did say, ‘Don’t f**k it up,'” Rachel added.

Katie Miller’s podcast features candid Cabinet moments

This kind of exchange has become common on Miller's podcast.

Cabinet members’ spouses have offered candid glimpses into their lives at home. Just a few weeks ago, Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared on the podcast with his wife, Jeanette.

The couple openly bantered about Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr's "Make America Healthy Again" campaign.

Rubio didn’t miss a beat. He joked about Kennedy’s diet, saying, “It’s basically all sauerkraut and meat,” then added that he supported MAHA himself.

“I’m in favor of MAHA. Like I think people should be healthy,” Rubio said. “No, he is not. He is completely not,” his wife interjected.

Asked what her husband eats instead, she replied simply, “Pop-Tarts.” Both moments showed how the Trump administration sought to put a more relatable face on its Cabinet.

Instead of sticking to dry policy interviews, administration figures have increasingly turned to informal, personality-driven media appearances.

Miller’s podcast, for example, has become a go-to platform for laid-back, family-focused conversations.

Duffy, who left his Fox News anchor job to work for the administration, has continued to use his media experience in public appearances.

Trump chose Duffy as Transportation Secretary at the start of his second term. Shortly afterward, Duffy also served briefly as acting NASA administrator before leaving that role to focus on transportation.
