Trump sparks confusion after telling Rachel Campos-Duffy 'give me a call' in bizarre gaffe
WASHINGTON, DC: What appeared to be a simple well-wishing message quickly spiraled into an online frenzy after Donald Trump sparked confusion with an oddly worded post asking his Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, to “call him.”
The 79-year-old President made the odd-sounding post on Sunday, May 17, as he took to his Truth Social to send well wishes to those attending a day-long prayer festival held at the National Mall in Washington, DC.
Trump’s confusing message for Sean Duffy’s wife
“I HOPE EVERYBODY AT REDEDICATE 250 IS HAVING A GOOD TIME,” Trump wrote about the event, which is described on its official website as “a national day of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving on the National Mall, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. It is a historic gathering to give thanks for God's providence, reflect on our nation's story, and rededicate America as One Nation under God."
The President’s message then took a more personal turn, as he added: “IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP, JUST HAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT, RACHAEL CD, GIVE ME A CALL.”

It’s unclear whether the message was meant to be sent privately.
Trump’s post came as the 54-year-old “The Real World: San Francisco” alum accompanied her husband to cover the “Rededicate 250” event live on Fox and Friends.
Talking about the couple’s on-screen presence, they are also preparing to appear in “The Great American Road Trip”, a five-part series that is set to be released on YouTube for free next month to coincide with America's 250th anniversary of independence.
Trump’s private message gaffes
If Trump intended for the message to be privately sent to Campos-Duffy, it wouldn’t be the first time he seemed to accidentally post a private message to his social media account.
Last year, he mistakenly posted an incendiary private message to Attorney General Pam Bondi on his public Truth Social account.
Trump administration officials told NBC News that the president believed the message was privately directed to “Pam,” whom he referenced in the post, and was reportedly surprised to learn it had been visible to the public the entire time.
In the message, Trump appeared to pressure Bondi to prosecute his nemesis and former FBI director, James Comey, along with other targets.
He added that he was receiving criticism for failing to retaliate against MAGA critics, including former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and California Senator Adam Schiff, all of whom investigated him in some capacity.
“Pam: I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, ‘same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,’” read Trump’s September 20 post.
