Horrifying scene at Miami airport as plane crashes, crosses road with flames erupting

MIAMI, FLORIDA: A routine landing at Miami International Airport turned into a terrifying emergency on Sunday, September 6, when an Amazon cargo aircraft ran beyond the runway and ended up in the airport area surrounded by vehicles.

Dramatic footage from the scene showed thick smoke rising as emergency crews rushed to respond.

The incident prompted an immediate shutdown of airport ground operations as authorities worked to determine what happened and assess those affected.

Amazon plane sparks emergency

The aircraft involved was an Amazon Air cargo plane operated by 21 Air.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane overran the runway after landing at Miami International Airport at around 2 pm.

The plane had departed from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before the incident in Miami.

Videos circulating from the airport show the aircraft in a severely compromised position, with smoke and flames visible around it.

The FAA said the agency will investigate the incident.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue described a frightening scene when firefighters arrived.

“Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing,” the department said in a statement shared on X.

More than 60 fire units were reported to have responded as crews worked to bring the fire under control and assess people at the scene.

Fire officials also confirmed that there were multiple patients.

At the time of this report, authorities had not released a definitive account of injuries or fatalities.

Airport operations brought to a halt

The crash immediately disrupted one of the busiest transportation hubs in South Florida.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said a full ground stop had been issued at Miami International Airport while first responders assessed the situation.

He warned travelers to expect significant delays and possible cancellations.

Amazon also confirmed that one of its aircraft had been involved.

Kelly Nantel, Amazon's spokesperson, said the company was still gathering information and working with authorities.

“We can confirm that an Amazon Air plane operated by 21 Air experienced an incident while attempting to land at Miami International Airport today,” Nantel said.

She stressed that the situation was developing and said Amazon was working closely with local officials to understand what had occurred.

The company said it was supporting those affected as authorities continued their response.
