WASHINGTON, DC: In the lead-up to the presidential debate scheduled on June 27, Donald Trump has stirred controversy by demanding that President Joe Biden take a drug test.

The suggestion has been seen by some, including former Republic National Convention (RNC) spokesperson Tim Miller, as a sign of the former president's apprehension about the upcoming debate, according to The Hill.

Tim Miller says Donald Trump is 'concerned about how the debate is being framed up'

During an interview with MSNBC on Monday, June 24, Miller said, “I do think that what we can see publicly is that Donald Trump is concerned about how this debate is being framed up as you lead into the debate."

“That is why he’s doing all the weird stuff about Joe Biden being on drugs. It’s worth reminding everybody that he tried this exact same playbook in 2020," he continued.

“But he already tried this ‘Joe Biden is on drugs’ thing. It didn’t’ work then,” Miller added.

Donald Trump's demand for Joe Biden's drug test

On Monday, June 24, Trump reiterated his call for Biden to take a drug test before the debate on Thursday, June 27.

The 77-year-old politician suggested that any strong performance by the president could be attributed to performance-enhancing drugs.

Trump also offered to take a drug test himself.

He and his allies have consistently sought to portray Biden as elderly and frail, questioning his fitness for a second presidency.

Earlier this year, the drug allegations surfaced in an attempt to undermine the president's State of the Union speech, which was generally well-received.

Miller also referenced Trump's statements at a weekend rally, where he denied ever calling America's fallen soldiers "suckers" and "losers" during a 2018 trip to France with his former Chief of Staff, John Kelly.

“To me, that also shows he’s worried about the debate. He’s thinking about what Joe Biden’s attacks might be on him, and he’s trying to take the air out of the balloon ahead of time," said Miller.

“So I think there’s a lot of evidence that Trump feels … is concerned about the debate. How that manifests in his weird mind, and whether he’s prepping or not, I’m not sure, but I think we can see plainly that he’s concerned,” he added.

Internet doubles down on Tim Miller suggesting Donald Trump is 'worried' about the presidential debate

Reacting to Miller suggesting Trump is worried about the upcoming presidential debate, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "He looks real concerned being on the golf course all day everyday."

"If there is concern, it would probably be related to what his questioners have said on-air about him in the past. CNN should appoint non-partisan experts, but they won’t (which tells you a lot about their motives). It will be interesting to see how they treat the president," a netizen commented.

"When Trump backs out, we will all laugh at him," a user tweeted while another user wrote, "Ah here we go, Trump is putting out negatives for the debate. No surprise if he contrives to get out of it."
