GLENDALE, ARIZONA: Paying tribute to her husband at his funeral service, Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika took the opportunity to praise second lady Usha Vance for comforting her hours after her husband’s death.
Erika revealed she found solace in a heartfelt conversation with the second lady. Overwhelmed by grief and uncertainty about how to navigate life without her partner and the father of their two children, Erika confided in Usha during their brief encounter.
Usha responded with an analogy comparing the experience to enduring the final 15 minutes of a turbulent airplane flight, emphasizing the importance of focusing on getting through each moment.
Erika later shared that Usha's words provided the comfort she desperately needed during that challenging time.
Erika Kirk pledges to honor her husband's legacy
Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, gave an emotional speech at the funeral service of her husband on September 21.
“The world needs Turning Point USA,” said Erika, who is now the new CEO of TPUSA. “It needs a group that will point young people away from the path of misery and sin.

It needs something that will lead people away from hell in this world and in the next. It needs young people pointed in the direction of truth and beauty, and so I promise you today every part of our work will become greater.”
She then described her relationship with her husband, saying, “Charlie and I were united in purpose. His passion was my passion, and now his mission is my mission. Everything that Turning Point USA built through Charlie’s vision and hard work, we will make 10 times greater through the power of his memory.”
Erika Kirk reveals Usha Vance's role in consoling her
Erika then revealed the role of Vice President JD Vance’s wife, second lady Usha Vance, in coping with her husband’s death on September 10.
“On the tarmac in Air Force Two, I confronted Usha Vance. I held her hand and told her, Honestly, I do not know how I'm going to get through this,” Erika said.
Usha told her, "You know when you're on an airplane with your kids, and it's the last 15 minutes of the flight, things are crazy, kids are not cooperating, toys are flying everywhere, and everyone's screaming? And you think to yourself, I cannot wait for this flight to land. And it's 15 minutes before you land.' You will get through these 15 minutes, and the next 15 minutes after that."
"Usha, I don't think you realized it then, but those words were exactly what I needed to hear," she added.
JD Vance's tribute to his slain friend

VP JD Vance also addressed the State Farm Stadium, which was packed with a crowd, delivering an emotional tribute to his slain friend.
He began by saying, "They tried to silence our dear friend Charlie Kirk. And tonight, we speak with Charlie and for Charlie, louder than ever."
He further praised Kirk for advocating for family and traditional values, highlighting that his legacy lies not only in his words but also in his life. He noted Kirk’s passion for history, which gave him the vision for America’s future.
The close bond between the Vance and Kirk families
Kirk was very close to Vance personally and politically, and played a key role in Donald Trump's decision to choose the VP.
Following the conservative activist's death, both Vance and his wife accompanied Erika aboard Air Force Two to return his casket to Arizona. Vance even carried the flag-draped casket while it was carried across the tarmac.
