Fact Check: Did an immigration court order Ilhan Omar to reapply for US citizenship?
WASHINGTON, DC: According to a rumor circulating on social media platforms, a federal court has ordered Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to reapply for United States citizenship. The claim surfaced amid the controversy surrounding the probe against her over alleged immigration fraud, sparking speculation and calls for a fact-check.
Claim: Ilhan Omar ordered to reapply for citizenship
Ilhan Omar will have to reapply for citizenship, according to an order from the 4th District US Immigration Court. "She was granted citizenship as a minor child of a naturalized person, but they lied about her age," said Immigration Judge Jeb Narroo, "Since she was 18 at the time, she's required to apply herself." The court gave her 30 days to complete the process legally, otherwise her citizenship will be stripped, which disqualifies her from Congress. Omar says she's appealing the decision. What's your response to this......??👀 MAKE THIS GO VIRAL ON X. LET’S GO 👏

The claim surfaced as an X post, which claims Ilhan Omar will have to reapply for citizenship as per an order from the 4th District US Immigration Court.
"She was granted citizenship as a minor child of a naturalized person, but they lied about her age," Immigration Judge Jeb Narroo allegedly said, "Since she was 18 at the time, she's required to apply herself.”
The post further states that the court gave her 30 days to complete the process legally; otherwise, her citizenship will be stripped, which disqualifies her from Congress.
The post has garnered tens of thousands of views as of this writing, with many accusing Omar of immigration fraud, indicating that they believe the claim, while a few others remained skeptical and questioned the claim's authenticity.
Fact Check: No credible evidence to support the claim

The claim, however, is false, as no immigration court has ordered the Somalia-born Democrat to reapply for citizenship before she is stripped of her citizenship and disqualified from Congress.
There are no publicly available statements, announcements, or press conferences from any court that support the claim.
If a federal court had really made such an order, it would not only be widely reported by prominent news media outlets, but would have even made headlines, triggering nationwide debate and controversy.
But searches on Google, Bing, and other search engines for the claim yielded no media reports supporting the claim.
Donald Trump calls for Ilhan Omar's resignation

The claim surfaced after a federal court filing identified the Minnesota lawmaker as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” following which President Donald Trump called for her resignation.
“It was just revealed just a little while ago that … her name is not Ilhan Omar, the one that she used to get elected and sworn into Congress,” Trump said on Thursday, October 22. “She used a fake name to be sworn in. I assume she must immediately have to resign from Congress.”
The development came after a federal raid at Omar’s home in Washington, DC, by agents from Homeland Security Investigations over longstanding immigration fraud allegations that Omar has denied.
