Fact Check: Did Billie Eilish announce she is transitioning to a man on social media?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A claim has been circulating on social media platforms that popular singer Billie Eilish announced on her Instagram account that she is transitioning into a man and is separating from her boyfriend, Nat Wolff. The claim has triggered strong reactions from fans and netizens, drawing criticism and concern, with many calling for a fact-check.
Claim: Billie Eilish announced she is transitioning to a man

The claim surfaced as a post on X (formerly Twitter), purportedly showing an Instagram story by the 24-year-old.
The alleged story read, “Today, I proudly embrace my journey of transitioning into a man. Nat and I have decided to go our separate ways, and I appreciate him for respecting my decision. I ask the public to respect my identity, accept me for who I am, and allow me to live my truth. I deserve love, dignity, and happiness just like everyone else.”
The screenshot of the alleged story has been shared by several accounts on X, Facebook, and Instagram, collectively garnering millions of views. The claim drew criticism and concerns from her fans, suggesting that they believe it to be an authentic post by the singer, while a few others remained skeptical and called for a fact-check.
Fact Check: Billie Eilish made no such announcement

However, the claim is false, as Eilish has not made such an announcement on any of her social media handles.
A look at her Instagram account includes no such story about transitioning into a man and breaking up with her boyfriend.
Although an Instagram story disappears after 24 hours, it would not go unreported by prominent news and entertainment outlets if Eilish had made such an announcement. But a search on Google for the claim returned no such news reports.
Moreover, recent reports suggest that the couple was seen together in late October, showing affection. Therefore, the screenshot is fabricated, and the claim is rated as false.
Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff's romance rumors intensified after they were spotted kissing in Venice in June 2025

Eilish and Wolff met at an Oscars after-party in 2024, where they connected over their shared experience of living with Tourette’s syndrome.
Their chemistry quickly caught fans’ attention when Wolff starred as Eilish’s love interest in the music video for her song 'Chihiro', released in June 2024, after which Wolff and his younger brother Alex joined Eilish as opening acts on her tour.
By early 2025, rumors about Eilish and Wolff dating began to swirl, though a source told that they were “just friends,” but later in June onlookers spotted the pair kissing on a balcony in Venice, Italy, and sipping champagne, according to DeuxMoi.
The pair appeared together at the Grammy Awards in February 2026 and made their relationship red carpet official in May 2026 at the Los Angeles premiere of Eilish's concert film, 'Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour Live in 3D'.
