Fact Check: Did Democrats pay Billie Eilish $120M, offer Taylor Swift $500M ahead of midterms?

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A viral social media post claims that the Democratic Party paid $120M to Billie Eilish and offered Taylor Swift $500M for a celebrity endorsement ahead of the November midterm elections. The claim has sparked criticism and speculation, prompting a fact-check.

Claim: Democrats paid $120M to Billie Eilish and offered $500M to Taylor Swift

According to the post that surfaced on X, Billie Eilish has received $120 million from the Democratic Party of the United States. It further stated that Taylor Swift is willing to support the Democrats and gender reassignment surgeries for minors in exchange for $500 million. 

The allegation appeared in the form of a video showing both singers. It has been shared on multiple accounts on the platform, garnering hundreds of thousands of views as of this writing.

While many appeared to believe the claim is true, others called it fake and called for verification.

Fact Check: No credible evidence to support the claim

The claim, however, is false, as there are no reports of the Democratic Party paying Eilish and offering Swift millions of dollars ahead of the midterms.

Eilish’s clip in the post dates back to December 2024, during her interview with Vanity Fair, as her outfit in the clip matches the one in the interview.

The video also includes a logo of ‘Washington Post’ along with overlay text stating, “Billie Eilish received $120 million from the U.S. Democratic Party," but a search on the outlet’s website for the claim yielded no matching reports. 

If the outlet had really published a story, it would not go unreported by other news media outlets, but a search on Google for the claim yielded no such media reports.

Additionally, a search on the Federal Election Commission website for disbursements made by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2020 to 2026 did not find any payments to Eilish.

Further, the clip showing Swift includes a logo of ‘The New York Times’ and shows her April 2026 interview. 

Although the NYT article with the video includes a transcript of her interview, there is no mention of her willingness to support the Democrats and reassignment surgeries for children in exchange for $500 million. Hence, the story is rated as fake and fabricated.
