WASHINGTON, DC: Amid tensions and pressure on the Trump administration over inflation, a remark attributed to President Donald Trump is circulating on social media platforms, claiming that he said that no one can control inflation better than him. The claim has sparked mockery and criticism, requiring a fact-check of the rumor.

The claim surfaced on X, showing an exchange between the president and a reporter during a press briefing at the Oval Office, where Trump allegedly said, “No one can control inflation better than me."

The reporter hit back, stating, “No way. Diesel jumped to its highest price in history today."

Trump purportedly justified it by saying that it’s good, as people will buy less diesel; hence, pollution would be less.

The claim drew mostly mockery and criticism against the president, suggesting that many appeared to believe the claim to be true, while a few others questioned its authenticity, prompting a fact check.

Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such remark

However, no such exchange has happened between Trump and a reporter during a press briefing at the White House; hence, the claim is rated as false.

Although Trump has repeatedly claimed that he will bring inflation down, there is no evidence of him saying that no one can control inflation better than him.

If Trump had really made the remark, prominent news media outlets would have widely covered it, making headlines, but a search on Google for the claim returned no such results.

There are also no official statements or transcripts from Trump or the White House that support the claim.

Moreover, the fabricated exchange was posted by an account called ‘InfoGram,’ which describes itself in the bio as ‘Satire Commentary.’

"When you have bad numbers, it goes up because of the stupidity of the way they think about inflation, and growth does not cause inflation; stupidity causes inflation!" Trump said on Friday, Sept 4, after a surprisingly strong August jobs report.

"We have to change our ways. The stock market should go UP. We're just doing so well. Watch, the stock market will go down because we have good numbers; every time you have good numbers, the stock market goes down," the president said.

In June, Trump dismissed concerns over rising inflation, saying he was pleased with the latest economic data despite rising consumer prices. When asked whether he was worried about inflation, he said, “No, I love it. The numbers were great.”
